The ovaries are retroperitoneal organs of the human body. It is completely encapsulated by the posterior leaflet of the uterine platysma tendon to form the ovarian capsule. The retroperitoneal fold between the uterus, ovaries and the platysma tendon is called the mesovarium. The mesoovarian lining is very short and contains blood vessels, lymph vessels, and nerves that connect to the uterus and ovaries. The mobility of the uterus and ovaries is very large, and their location is often affected by the level of intestinal fullness.
