How does Traditional Chinese Medicine treat Candida vaginitis?

Vaginitis is the most common disease among women. If female patients experience vaginal itching, abnormal vaginal discharge, vaginal odor, etc., it is likely caused by vaginitis infection. However, there are many types of vaginitis, and the treatments for different types of vaginitis are also different. For example, Trichomonas vaginitis, fungal vaginitis, Candida vaginitis, etc. The infectious bacteria of each type of vaginitis are different. (1) Damp-heat descending: itching and burning pain in the genitals, restlessness, excessive vaginal discharge that is white and resembles tofu dregs, dry and sticky mouth, yellow urine, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, and slippery pulse.

Treatment method: clear away heat, promote dampness and relieve itching.

Prescription: 15 grams each of Radix Dianthus, Poria, Dictamni, Cortex Moutan, Smilax glabra, and Coix seeds, 12 grams each of Phellodendron amurense and Heshi, and 10 grams of Plantago seed (package).

Chinese patent medicine: Baidai pills

(2) Dampness and toxicity accumulation: itching and burning pain in the genitals, redness, swelling and ulceration, heavy vaginal discharge that is yellowish-white and looks like tofu dregs, or contains blood and has a foul odor, irritability and dry mouth, yellow and red painful urination, red tongue with a yellow and greasy coating, and a slippery and rapid pulse

Treatment method: clear away heat, detoxify, promote dampness and relieve itching.

Prescription: 15 grams each of honeysuckle, dandelion, red peony root, moutan bark, sophora flavescens, and wild yam, 12 grams each of Dictamni bark, gardenia, Poria cocos, and Alisma orientalis, 10 grams each of Phellodendron chinense and Plantago seed (package).

Chinese patent medicine: Funing Suppository.

(3) Yin deficiency with dampness: itching, cracking, and burning pain in the genitals, which worsens at night; vaginal discharge that is heavy or normal in volume and is in the form of tofu dregs or contains blood; fever in the five parts of the body; dry mouth and difficult urination; red and dry tongue with little coating or yellow greasy coating at the root of the tongue; and a weak and rapid pulse.

Treatment method: Nourish yin and clear heat, remove dampness and relieve itching.

Prescription: 15 grams each of raw rehmannia, yam, cornus fruit, oriental water plantain, poria, and moutan bark, and 12 grams each of phellodendron and white peony root.

Chinese patent medicine: Zhibai Dihuang Wan.

(4) External treatment

① Fumigation and washing of the vulva: 15 grams each of realgar, sophora flavescens, phellodendron, smilax glabra, and he shi, 10 grams of raw licorice, wrapped in cloth and boiled in water for 20 minutes, used for fumigation and washing of the vulva, twice a day.

② Vaginal lavage: 30 grams of garlic, boiled into 100 ml, wash the vulva and vagina once a day, 10 times as a course of treatment.

Candidal vaginitis is a relatively common type of vaginitis, and the treatment method is not too serious.
