How to check for polycystic ovary syndrome?

The incidence of polycystic ovary syndrome is now increasing, which is also one of the causes of infertility in women, so it must attract people's attention. You know, if a couple cannot have their own children, then there will definitely be hidden dangers in their marriage, and one day the two may go their separate ways because of fertility issues. Therefore, it is recommended that women should go to the hospital for physical examinations more often. So, what are the tests for polycystic ovary syndrome?

1. Ultrasound examination: bilateral ovaries are polycystic and enlarged, with thickened and echogenic capsules. A large number of cystic follicles with a diameter of 2 to 9 mm can be seen under the capsule, with more than 10 on one or both sides. They are arranged in a wheel shape around the edge of the ovary, which is called the necklace sign. The ovarian stroma has uneven echogenicity and the endometrium is thickened. Care should be taken to exclude uterine and ovarian tumors and adrenal lesions.

2. Retroperitoneal pneumatic angiography and hysterosalpingography: The purpose is to observe the morphology and size of the ovaries and adrenal glands in order to identify the cause of hyperandrogenism.

3. Diagnostic curettage and endometrial examination: Patients aged ≥35 years should undergo routine diagnostic curettage and endometrial examination to understand the histological changes of the endometrium (cystic type/adenomatous type/atypical hyperplasia) and rule out endometrial cancer.

4. Endoscope: including laparoscope and laparoscopy, to directly observe the ovarian morphology or perform treatments such as biopsy, puncture, wedge resection and electrocautery.

5. CT and MRI: to identify and exclude pelvic tumors.

6. Laparotomy: performed when ovarian tumor is suspected or ovarian wedge resection is intended.

Polycystic ovary syndrome also has obvious symptoms, and women should pay more attention to them in their lives, such as infrequent menstruation or no menstruation, obesity, acne, and more sweat hair on the skin surface. If you have two or three of the above symptoms at the same time, you may be suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome and must be treated promptly.
