What's going on if there is a little blood in the leucorrhea?

Normal leucorrhea is milky white or colorless and transparent, and during ovulation period, the leucorrhea may appear stringy. However, some people's leucorrhea often appears abnormal, either too much, or with a strange smell, and some people's leucorrhea contains traces of blood, which often makes people very worried. What is the cause of this? If you have such questions, please see the editor's introduction below:

The first thing that comes to mind is a malignant tumor. Indeed, early symptoms of endometrial cancer may include bloody leucorrhea, but this leucorrhea is mostly watery and often occurs at the same time as symptoms of abnormal menstruation. An accurate diagnosis can only be made after a diagnostic curettage.

Patients with cervical cancer may also have bloody leucorrhea, but it is often accompanied by a foul odor. The most obvious feature in the early stage is easy contact bleeding, that is, there will be more bleeding when the cervix is touched during sexual intercourse or gynecological examination. However, vaginal cytology and cervical biopsy are the only reliable means to confirm the diagnosis.

Submucosal uterine fibroids prolapse into the vagina and protrude outside the uterine cavity, which may also cause bloody leucorrhea due to infection, erosion and necrosis of the tissue surface. When the endometrium of the cervical canal proliferates due to inflammatory infection, forming cervical polyps and protruding from the cervical os, the surface of the polyp may also have bloody leucorrhea and contact bleeding due to inflammatory congestion. However, submucosal myomas or cervical polyps can be easily found through gynecological examination. The difference between the former is that the pedicles are larger and thicker.

In addition, various types of vaginitis may manifest as increased leucorrhea, even mixed with blood, but are often accompanied by other different symptoms, such as vulvar itching or burning sensation, which helps in differential diagnosis. Some patients may also find blood in their vaginal discharge after placing an intrauterine contraceptive ring. This may be caused by friction between the intrauterine contraceptive ring and the endometrium.

Blood in leucorrhea may be due to gynecological inflammation or cervical erosion, or more seriously, it may be cervical cancer. Therefore, once blood appears in the leucorrhea, you must not take it lightly, but should pay great attention to it. Don't be afraid to see a doctor because it is a private matter. You should actively find out the cause and receive timely symptomatic treatment to recover from the disease as soon as possible.
