Why are my nipples red, swollen and itchy?

Breast health has always been something that many women are concerned about. However, due to their shyness and lack of understanding of the disease, many women delay treatment, leaving great risks to their health. Do you know what causes women’s nipples to be red, swollen and itchy? Redness, swelling or itching of the nipples will make us worried, but the occurrence of these two conditions at the same time makes things even more complicated. So what is the cause of redness, swelling and itching of the nipples?

Unknown redness, swelling and itching of the breast is very likely breast cancer. Not all breast cancers will manifest as "breast lumps", especially in the early stages. Some breast problems that look like skin diseases and mastitis are also very likely cancer and deserve attention.

Experts explained that eczematous breast cancer often occurs in women aged 40 to 60. The cause is still unclear. The cancer cells originate in the mammary ducts in the early stages and only break through the duct walls and enter the breast tissue in the late stages. Therefore, there are no lumps in the breasts in the early stages.

"In fact, like eczematous breast cancer, there are many early breast cancers where no lumps can be felt." Experts say that this situation mostly occurs in some small tumors, softer tumors and deeper tumors, and it is especially obvious for some women with more developed and dense breast tissue (such as young women). In addition, some small tumors may approach or exceed the limits of imaging examinations, so they may not appear or appear atypically in individual imaging examinations. Therefore, even if there is a lump in breast cancer, it may not be found, and it is easy to miss the diagnosis.

On the other hand, a few occult cancers can never find their primary lesions, and about half of patients with inflammatory breast cancer have no lumps, and the prominent symptoms are redness, swelling, and heat of the breast skin, so that many patients, especially those who are breastfeeding, think they have mastitis.

Experts warn that these types of breast cancer are very easy to misdiagnose. Therefore, we must abandon the outdated idea that breast cancer must be accompanied by lumps, increase vigilance against early breast cancer, and actively participate in regular screenings.

Through the above introduction, we know that if women experience redness, swelling and itching of nipples, the possible cause is either eczema or breast cancer. Therefore, in the face of such a conclusion, don’t panic, be sure to stay calm, go to a regular hospital in time for further confirmation, and take treatment methods, so that the disease can be eliminated. Breast health is something that women need to pay more attention to, so break the shyness and speak out loudly.
