How many times should I do B-ultrasound during pregnancy?

For pregnant women, they do the same things every day, eating and sleeping, and sometimes they need to go to the hospital for a check-up so that they can know the condition of their children at any time. Some friends will do B-ultrasound, but the number of B-ultrasounds should not be too many. So, how many B-ultrasounds are appropriate during pregnancy?

It is generally believed that unless it is necessary for clinical diagnosis, B-ultrasound should be performed with caution within three months of pregnancy, and 2-3 B-ultrasound examinations are appropriate for a normal pregnancy. The first time can be around 20 weeks of pregnancy. At this time, there is relatively more amniotic fluid, the fetus is of moderate size, and has a larger space to move around in the uterus. B-ultrasound has better contrast and can clearly see the various organs of the fetus. The fetus can be examined from head to toe. If deformities or abnormalities are found, further examinations such as amniocentesis can be performed, or the pregnancy can be terminated in time. The second time can be in the later stages of pregnancy (after 28 weeks) to understand the size of the fetus, the condition of the amniotic fluid, the position and maturity of the placenta, whether the umbilical cord is around the neck, etc., and to check again for any deformities. If the fetus is found to be too large or too small, the amniotic fluid is too much or too little, the placenta is low or anterior, or the fetus is in a head or breech presentation, the doctor will take appropriate treatment measures.

How many times you need to do B-ultrasound during the entire pregnancy depends on the specific situation of the pregnant woman. Generally speaking, at least 4 B-ultrasounds are needed during pregnancy.

The first check-up is between 10 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It can determine whether it is a single or multiple pregnancy, understand the general growth and development of the fetus, and measure the fetal nuchal translucency and nasal bone. Combined with serological screening, congenital abnormalities of the fetus can be detected. In addition, because the errors of many fetal ultrasound indicators are relatively small at this stage, it is convenient to determine the gestational age.

The second check-up is scheduled between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. At this time, we can have a clearer understanding of the development of fetal tissues and organs, and thus understand whether the fetus has any malformations. If so, it is more appropriate to terminate the pregnancy at this time (based on the advice of the obstetrician and relevant policies).

The third check-up is between 32 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. It may reveal some missed fetal malformations and provide a further understanding of the fetal growth and development, position, and amniotic fluid volume.

The last check-up is at 38 to 39 weeks of pregnancy to reconfirm whether there are any abnormalities in fetal morphology, monitor fetal growth and development, placenta, amniotic fluid, and estimate birth weight.

Through the above analysis and introduction, I believe everyone understands how many times it is appropriate to do ultrasound during pregnancy. In addition to regular check-ups, pregnant women should also pay attention to eating more nutritious food in their daily lives, so that the baby born will be particularly smart and lively. During pregnancy, everyone should also pay more attention to their emotions.
