Hyperplasia of labia minora

Hyperplasia of labia minora

Just like men with long foreskin, women can also have enlarged labia minora. The normal width of the labia is 1.5 cm to 2.0 cm. When standing up, the labia on both sides are close to the middle of the labia majora on both sides and are slightly visible. So what should women do if their labia minora become enlarged and thickened?

So what is labia minora hypertrophy?

If the labia minora become significantly wider and thicker, and the distance from the base end to the middle of the two side edges exceeds 4 cm, it is called hypertrophy of the labia minora. Of course, some patients are caused by long-term inflammation, stimulation or continuous friction of the labia, such as gynecological inflammation and vulvitis. Due to the long-term stimulation of inflammatory secretions, the labia skin and mucosa diffusely proliferate and thicken, and some parts become rough and the pigmentation increases. Women who ride bicycles or motorcycles for a long time may also cause hypertrophy of the labia minora due to long-term friction and compression of the parts. Some middle-aged women may have loose labia minora due to their age.

Hypertrophy of the labia minora is mostly bilateral, and there are also patients who seek medical treatment because the hypertrophy on one side affects the appearance of the private parts.

What confusion will labia minora hypertrophy cause us?

1. Thick labia can cause friction and discomfort when walking;

2. Bilateral hypertrophy can cause the private parts to close too tightly, affecting the metabolism of menstrual blood and urine. Not only is it easy to wet the underwear during urination, which is embarrassing, but it is also easy to cause female urogenital infection;

3. For some patients, their thick labia are brought into the vagina during sexual intercourse, affecting their sexual life.
