What causes dizziness and tinnitus in pregnant women?

Many pregnant women will experience many symptoms during pregnancy. These symptoms are relatively common, such as dizziness and tinnitus in pregnant women. There are actually many reasons for this symptom. What are the causes of dizziness and tinnitus in pregnant women? Let’s analyze the reasons for dizziness and tinnitus in pregnant women in detail.

During pregnancy, the increase in progesterone secretion can easily cause swelling of the mucosa, leading to symptoms such as tinnitus, nasal allergies, and nasal congestion. The symptoms usually improve after delivery. However, there are many causes of tinnitus. If the symptoms are severe, you should go to an ENT department for a professional examination. However, as long as tinnitus does not affect your daily life, there is no need to worry too much.

Reason 1: After pregnancy, the endocrine level in the body is higher than before pregnancy. The increase in hormones will cause a disorder in the water and sodium metabolism in the inner ear, causing tinnitus.

Reason 2: When a pregnant woman develops anemia, due to a decrease in red blood cells, the blood's ability to carry oxygen is weakened, and the maternal tissue cells are deprived of oxygen. The pregnant woman may experience symptoms such as dizziness, tinnitus, fatigue in the limbs, shortness of breath, and palpitations.

Reason three: The blood volume in pregnant women increases, which causes an increase in the fluctuation range of their blood pressure and causes tinnitus.

First of all, it is necessary to rule out whether tinnitus in pregnant women is caused by anemia, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, fever caused by various infections, etc. These diseases will not only put the body in a state of exhaustion and cause tinnitus and headaches, but also affect the functions of the expectant mother's important organs and the development of the fetus. Therefore, early diagnosis and active treatment are necessary, blood pressure and urine protein should be monitored dynamically, and pregnancy-induced hypertension should be ruled out. You should also undergo a specialist examination, such as an ENT examination, to rule out ear canal abnormalities. If there are no abnormalities, a neurological examination should be performed to rule out brain lesions. Of course, for pregnant women, it is more important to ensure adequate sleep and a stable mentality. TCM's explanation of tinnitus in pregnant women:

Tinnitus during pregnancy is a disease name. See Volume 2 of Ye’s Gynecological Diagnosis and Treatment. It is mostly because pregnant women usually have kidney deficiency, which is more severe after pregnancy, resulting in insufficient kidney essence and energy, empty marrow and tinnitus, as well as dizziness, soreness of waist and knees, etc. The treatment should be to nourish yin and tonify the kidney, and the prescription should be to use Bushen Pills (a pair of pig kidneys, a little green salt, honey pills and wine). Or it may be due to excessive liver and gallbladder fire, and the liver fire may inflame the symptoms of tinnitus, headache, dizziness, bitter mouth and dry throat, and tinnitus is more common before noon. The treatment should be to clear the liver and gallbladder fire, and the prescription should be Xiao Chaihu Decoction with Coptis chinensis and Gardenia. Tinnitus after noon is mostly due to blood deficiency, accompanied by restlessness and insomnia. The treatment should be to soothe the liver and replenish blood. The prescription is Siwu Decoction with Atractylodes macrocephala and Poria cocos.

The above reasons can all cause dizziness and tinnitus in pregnant women, so we must find a reasonable reason based on our own body and symptoms. Only by finding the right reason can we prescribe the right medicine and better treat dizziness and tinnitus in pregnant women, which will make our pregnancy healthier and more comfortable, so that we can rest assured.
