How many times do pregnant women have B-ultrasounds?

Pregnant women must follow the requirements for physical examinations so that they can have a good understanding of their own and the fetus's conditions. In addition, if any abnormalities are found during the examination, the doctor will explain them in a timely manner and provide some advice on how to improve them. Therefore, pregnant women should not be too anxious. How many times should pregnant women undergo B-ultrasounds? This is something that many pregnant women are not clear about, so there are some explanations for this.

How many times should pregnant women undergo ultrasound?

The first ultrasound examination: at 6 to 8 weeks of pregnancy, mainly to exclude or promptly detect ectopic pregnancy (ectopic pregnancy) or abnormal pregnancy (hydatidiform mole, etc.), and to understand whether the embryo is alive;

Second ultrasound examination: at 11-14 weeks of pregnancy, mainly to measure the fetal NT, combined with maternal serum blood test, to assess the risk of fetal chromosomal abnormalities;

The third ultrasound examination: at 18 to 24 weeks of pregnancy, it is mainly for systematic screening of fetal development and diagnosis of fatal fetal malformations, including anencephaly, encephalocele, open spina bifida, visceral eversion due to chest and abdominal wall defects, single-chamber heart, and fatal chondroplasia. This ultrasound examination is particularly important because, at this stage of fetal development, the fetus does not occupy much space in the uterus, and has more room to move around. The fetus can move more freely. Ultrasound can observe the morphological structure of most of the fetus' organs from multiple observation angles and screen out fetal malformations.

The fourth and fifth ultrasound examinations: at 32 to 38 weeks, to rule out some fetal developmental abnormalities that occur in the late pregnancy, to understand the fetal position, placental position and maturity, the amount of amniotic fluid, etc.; to determine whether the fetus has umbilical cord entanglement, how many weeks it is around the neck, and the tightness of the neck, etc.; and to understand the umbilical cord blood flow and assess the fetal safety in the womb. It provides valuable reference indicators for clinicians to choose the timing and method of delivery.

After a pregnant woman has undergone several B-ultrasound examinations, she will be able to understand the fetal condition in detail. If the fetus is not developing normally, it can be discovered in time. Therefore, during this examination, the pregnant woman should relax her whole body and not be too nervous, otherwise it will affect the examination results.
