Is it a big deal if I don't have my period for a week?

Menstruation is unique to women. Although the few days of menstruation every month are quite uncomfortable and make people feel bad, it is still very worrying if menstruation does not come when it is supposed to come. Is it a big deal if you don’t have your period for a week? Many female friends want to know this question. Here I will give you a brief introduction to this issue, hoping it can help you.

Is it a big deal if I don't have my period for a week?

It is not a big deal if your period is delayed by less than ten days. However, if your period is delayed by more than ten days, it is best to go to the hospital for a detailed examination.

The menstrual cycle is generally 28 to 30 days. About ten days earlier or later is still within the normal range, and the length of the cycle varies from person to person. But if it exceeds this time, women with normal menstruation will definitely be worried. There are four situations:

1. Pregnancy

Ten days after the menstruation is delayed, you can test your urine with an early pregnancy test strip. If it is positive, you are very likely pregnant. If it is negative, the opposite is true. But if you are pregnant, there will be other symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, etc.

2. The amplitude of the drug effect

If endocrine disorders occur after taking contraceptives, menstruation may be delayed. Doctors also found, based on patient feedback, that a new generation of gastrokinetic drug, metoclopramide, also known as domperidone, may also cause this condition. Since metoclopramide does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, it is believed that it has no inhibitory effect on central dopamine receptors. Central dopamine receptors are inhibited, resulting in a decrease in the amount of hypothalamic release factors entering the anterior pituitary. As a result, the anterior pituitary secretes less gonadotropin and corticotropin, leading to amenorrhea and delayed ovulation.

3. Caused by surgery

For example, intrauterine surgery may cause cervical adhesions, which may lead to menstrual blood stasis and thus delay menstruation.

4. Others

Such as psychological factors such as mental tension, stress, environmental changes, and some diseases that affect endocrine system.

The above is a simple introduction about whether it is serious if you miss your period for a week. Now you know it! If you have ruled out the possibility of pregnancy and your period has not come after a period of time, you should consider going to the hospital for examination, as you may be ill. Timely treatment is the most effective way to restore health, so everyone must pay attention.
