Cervical cytology test

Cervical cytology test

Many female friends are troubled by some gynecological diseases. Because of the structure of the female reproductive tract itself, it will easily lead to some bacteria invading our body. Women are a relatively vulnerable group of people, so they must always pay attention to their physical health. Then, many people with cervical problems, do they know about the method of cervical exfoliated cell examination? Let's introduce it below.

1. Specimen Collection

(ii) Cervical smear

(1) Avoid sexual intercourse, vaginal douching, medication or examination within 24 hours before the examination.

(2) The patient takes the lithotomy position and uses a speculum to expose the cervix. The cervical opening and surrounding secretions are gently wiped away. For estrogen level testing, secretions from the upper 1/3 of the vaginal wall are sampled. To check for cancer cells, use a wooden scraper (with the tip facing the cervical os and the bevel facing the cervix) at the cervical os and rotate it 360 degrees. If too much force is used when scraping, it may cause injury and bleeding, while if too little force is used, too few cells may be scraped off. Both of these will affect the results of the film reading.

(3) Immediately apply the scraped cells onto a clean glass slide in the same direction. Do not apply repeatedly to avoid damaging the cells.

(4) The slides should be immediately fixed in 95% alcohol and should not be left in the air for a long time to prevent the cells from drying, shrinking, or deforming. If the specimen is mixed with blood, it should be fixed in acetic alcohol.

(5) Fill out the smear test request form in detail, indicating the smear number and medical record number. If there is no medical record number, please indicate the detailed address.

2. Endocervical smear

First wipe off the secretions on the surface of the cervix and use a "cytology brush" to scrape the endocervical epithelium. Place the "cytol brush" in the cervical canal, 10 mm above the external os of the cervix, rotate it 360° in the cervical canal and then take it out. The rotating "cytol brush" will elute the specimen attached to the small brush into the preservation solution. Thin-layer liquid-based cytology preparation method was used for smear preparation.

2. Dyeing

Papanicolaou staining is commonly used to check estrogen levels and to search for cancer cells. Other methods such as Shorr's method and gentian violet staining are also commonly used.

People with cervical problems usually have a cervical exfoliated cell test when they go to the hospital for a check-up. This test can effectively check whether the cervical problem is normal. In fact, female friends must have time to take care of their bodies while they are busy. They are more prone to illness and must detect their abnormal conditions in time. In this way, we can stay healthy at all times.
