Symptoms of Rubella virus infection in pregnant women

I believe everyone is familiar with the disease of rubella. The rubella virus can easily harm young children and pregnant women. Once a pregnant woman is infected with the rubella virus, it will not only affect her own body but also the fetus. Therefore, we recommend that pregnant women must know more about rubella. Once infected with the rubella virus, they must seek treatment in time. Below we introduce the symptoms of pregnant women infected with the rubella virus.

The vast majority of people have been infected with rubella in their lives, but because the clinical symptoms are mild and some people are latently infected, they go unnoticed. However, when a pregnant woman contracts rubella, the situation is completely different. Rubella virus can affect the fetus in the womb and cause serious consequences.

The symptoms of rubella in pregnant women are very typical, and the rash will appear about 12 to 23 days after you are exposed to the rubella virus. You may first have symptoms of rubella such as low-grade fever, lack of energy, swollen lymph nodes (especially swollen lymph nodes behind the ears), painful and swollen joints, red and swollen eyes, and runny nose, and then the rash will appear after 1 to 5 days.

The rash usually lasts 1 to 3 days and then disappears. It usually appears on the face first and then spreads to other parts of the body. Symptoms of swollen lymph nodes and joint pain may last for several weeks. Rubella patients are contagious from one week before the rash appears to about one week after the rash appears, and the contagiousness is strongest during the rash period.

Even if women of childbearing age who have been infected with rubella virus are infected again, it will not cause harm to the fetus after pregnancy. However, about 10% of women of childbearing age are susceptible to rubella. If they are infected with the rubella virus for the first time within the first three months of pregnancy, the fetal malformation rate can be as high as over 80%, especially for pregnant women who have never been infected.

If you are diagnosed with rubella within the first three months of pregnancy, you must communicate with your doctor and consider having an abortion.

In the above article, we introduced what rubella is. We know that rubella is very harmful. Rubella can easily harm young children and pregnant women, so we recommend that pregnant women pay attention to the prevention of rubella virus.
