We suggest that female friends with dysmenorrhea symptoms should not only pay attention to their diet, but also adopt some traditional Chinese medicine methods to treat dysmenorrhea. So what traditional Chinese medicine methods can we use to deal with dysmenorrhea? We found that massaging acupoints has a good effect in relieving and treating dysmenorrhea.

We need to know which acupoints are beneficial for treating dysmenorrhea, and we should also know how to massage these acupoints. To treat dysmenorrhea, we can massage Sanyinjiao point, Taichong point, Uterus point and Xuehai point.

Sanyinjiao acupoint:

Acupoint location: On the inner side of the calf, 3 inches above the tip of the inner ankle, behind the inner edge of the tibia.

Massage method: Use the left thumb to rub the right Sanyinjiao point until you feel a sore and swollen feeling. After 1 minute, use the right thumb to rub the left Sanyinjiao point for 1 minute.

The effects of massaging Sanyinjiao: It has the function of connecting the heart and kidney, guiding fire downward, and relieving the pain of all gynecological diseases.

Taichong Point:

Acupoint location: between the big toe and the second toe.

Massage method: Use the tip of your left thumb to rub the right Taichong point until you feel a sore and swollen feeling. After 1 minute, use the tip of your right thumb to rub the left Taichong point for 1 minute.

The effect of massaging Taichong: It has obvious effect of soothing the liver and relieving pain. It can not only treat dysmenorrhea, but also treat all gynecological diseases.

Uterine Point:

Acupoint location: The uterus point is located in the lower abdomen, in the middle of the horizontal palm below the navel (4 inches below the navel). This acupoint is located at a point four fingers away from the left and right (3 inches away from the midline).

Massage method: Use the index and middle fingers of both hands to press the uterus points on both sides, apply a little pressure, and knead slowly until you feel soreness and swelling. Do it for 5 minutes. It is best when you feel heat in the abdominal cavity.

Effects of pressing and kneading the uterus point: Stimulating the uterus point is a conditioning method directly targeting the female reproductive organs. It has significant therapeutic effects and has the effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, regulating qi and relieving pain.

Blood Sea Cave:

Acupoint location: Bend the knee, and locate it on the inner side of the thigh, 2 inches above the inner end of the patellar base, at the bulge of the inner head of the quadriceps femoris. Sit on a chair and stretch your legs straight. There will be a depression on the inside of the knee. Above the depression is a raised muscle, and the top of the muscle is the Xuehai point.

Massage method: Press this acupoint with your two thumbs overlapping each other. When you have dysmenorrhea, the left leg usually hurts as well, so stimulate the left leg more. It would be better if you put a hot water bottle on your waist.

The effects of massaging the Xuehai acupoint: It can guide blood back to the meridians and treat various blood diseases. Pressing the Xuehai acupoint can relieve lower abdominal pain during menstruation.

For the treatment of dysmenorrhea, it is generally recommended to start self-massage 5 to 7 days before menstruation, stop after menstruation, and resume treatment before the next menstruation. The purpose of massage is to guide blood downward, so the treatment must be performed when pain occurs in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral area before menstruation. If the technique is done properly, the menstrual period can be advanced by 1 to 2 days. As the menstrual blood is discharged, the pain will disappear or be alleviated.
