Things to note when taking a gynecological examination

If female friends want to pay attention to their physical health, they must have regular gynecological examinations, because only through gynecological examinations can some potential diseases be discovered and treated in time. Many female friends are very reluctant to have gynecological examinations, thinking that there is no need. In fact, this idea is wrong. Gynecological examinations are not only necessary but also must be done regularly.

Gynecological examination is not that simple. There are actually many things that female friends need to pay attention to before doing a gynecological examination. So what do female friends need to pay attention to before a gynecological examination? Let’s read the introduction below.

1. Within 24 hours before the examination, you can wash the vulva, but do not flush the vagina, even if the vaginal secretions increase and there is an odor, which will affect the doctor's ability to make a correct diagnosis. Be prepared for the physical examination and make a record of what you want to consult the doctor and what the doctor may ask, including past medical history, menstrual history in the past 3 months, problems during menstruation, problems in your sexual life, the history of previous pregnancies, etc.

2. Having a gynecological examination means exposing privacy and also means having to answer some embarrassing questions. However, women should realize that a gynecological examination is the guardian of women's health, and communicating honestly with doctors is not as troublesome as imagined. If it is difficult to share a secret such as multiple miscarriages, you may want to ask on behalf of a friend. Don't hide it, because there is a high possibility that you are already a potential patient. A smart patient should know how to cooperate with the doctor's questions. It would be ignorant to delay his or her own health because of shyness.

3. Gynecological examination (pelvic examination), which is a must-have item for women of all ages; the contents of this examination include: vulva examination, vaginal examination, cervical examination, uterus and adnexa examination. During a pelvic examination, if you feel the urge to urinate, don't be embarrassed and be sure to go to the bathroom first. Otherwise, a full bladder will directly affect the results of the examination.

4. During the vaginal speculum examination, the doctor will insert a lubricated duckbill-shaped vaginal speculum into your vagina, then open it and stretch the vaginal walls that are usually stuck together to observe whether there are any visible lesions in your vagina and cervix. Take deep breaths during insertion and try to relax as much as possible. The more nervous you are, the more likely it is to cause pain and affect the results of the examination.

5. Don’t forget to have regular cervical smear checks. Some hospitals do not include this item in their gynecological examinations, so you can tell your doctor in advance. If the annual cervical smear is completely normal for three consecutive times, the examination can be changed to every two years with the doctor's consent.

6. Women should avoid having their physical examinations during their menstrual period, as routine gynecological examinations and cervical cancer prevention examinations are important parts of women's physical examinations. These examinations cannot be performed during the menstrual period, and urine samples collected from women during the menstrual period will affect routine urine examinations. In addition, some women often experience breast swelling and pain before their menstrual period, accompanied by lumps of varying sizes, which can create a false impression during the physical examination and require a follow-up examination after the menstrual period. Therefore, women with relevant conditions are advised to arrange a physical examination after their menstrual period.

7. Taboos on the day of the physical examination: You are required to fast and not drink water on the morning of the physical examination. If you suffer from chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease and hypertension, you can take medicine normally with an appropriate amount of water and inform the doctor during the physical examination. Diabetic patients should also prepare sugary foods and replenish sugar in time after the examination to avoid hypoglycemia.

8. Diet before the physical examination: The day before the physical examination, you should eat a light meal, do not drink alcohol, strong tea or coffee, and do not eat or drink water after 8 pm. Secondly, you should pay attention to rest the day before the physical examination to avoid excessive fatigue, strenuous exercise, and emotional excitement. In addition, patients with chronic diseases should not stop taking medication before a physical examination.

9. Do not do morning exercises before the physical examination to avoid hypoglycemia or inaccurate liver function, urine and blood sugar tests after morning exercises.

10. Do not wear makeup during the physical examination. On the day of the physical examination, women should avoid wearing makeup, including lipstick, nail polish, mascara, facial makeup, etc. Because these decorations will affect the doctor's judgment of diseases, such as whether there is anemia, heart disease and respiratory diseases. Those who have had facial plastic surgery should proactively inform their doctors so that they can determine whether they have any genetic diseases.

11. On the day of the physical examination, do not wear complicated clothing such as dresses, high socks, pantyhose, etc., and do not wear metal bras to avoid causing unnecessary trouble. It is best not to wear jewelry, or take off necklaces, earrings and other metal accessories before the examination to avoid affecting the radiological examination. Also, women who are pregnant must inform the nurse or doctor before the physical examination.
