What is the reason for missing menstruation?

Menstruation is a stage that every woman needs to go through. The difference is that different symptoms will appear during this period depending on the characteristics of each woman. When menstruation misses, many women should pay attention to whether there is something wrong with their body. Only by knowing clearly the reasons why menstruation is not coming can we deal with it better. Around the time of menstruation, we will subconsciously pay attention to whether the menstruation comes within the normal time.

Women during their menstrual period need to pay attention to their lifestyle and diet, because both lifestyle and diet before and after the menstrual period will have a certain impact on the body. Therefore, only by clearly knowing the cause of the problem can we better solve the problem.

So what is the reason for missing menstruation?

1. Pregnancy: You can test urine with an early pregnancy test strip 7 days after your period is delayed. If the result is positive, you are very likely pregnant. If the result is negative, then vice versa. But if you are pregnant, there will be other symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, etc. Of course, the last resort is to go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination.

2. The effect of drugs: endocrine disorders after taking contraceptives can also cause delayed menstruation. Doctors also found, based on patient feedback, that a new generation of gastrokinetic drug, metoclopramide, also known as domperidone, may also cause this condition. Since metoclopramide does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, it is believed that it has no inhibitory effect on central dopamine receptors. Central dopamine receptors are inhibited, resulting in a decrease in the amount of hypothalamic release factors entering the anterior pituitary. As a result, the anterior pituitary secretes less gonadotropin and corticotropin, leading to amenorrhea and delayed ovulation.

3. Caused by surgery: For example, intrauterine surgery may cause cervical adhesions and result in menstrual blood stasis, thus delaying menstruation.

4. Mood and stress lead to amenorrhea. If women of childbearing age are under long-term stress, the function of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland will be suppressed, causing the ovaries to no longer secrete female hormones and ovulate, and menstruation will begin to become disordered. Similarly, long-term psychological depression, sulking or bad mood can also affect menstruation and cause amenorrhea.

5. Weight loss leads to amenorrhea. Fat is the source and storehouse of many hormones, and is the source of energy for female menstruation and reproduction. In order to maintain normal menstruation, conception, breastfeeding and other functions, the body fat content must be at least 22% of body weight. Studies have also shown that if women eat too little fat, the secretion of estrogen in their bodies will decrease over time, which in turn may cause delayed menstruation or even no menstruation.

6. Drug abuse, tobacco, alcohol, and placement of contraceptive rings may lead to amenorrhea. The menstrual cycle is generally 28 to 30 days. About 7 days earlier or later is still within the normal range, and the length of the cycle varies from person to person. But if it exceeds this time, women with normal menstruation will definitely be worried.

7. Others: psychological factors such as mental tension, stress, environmental changes, and some diseases that affect endocrine system. Can cause delayed menstruation.

There are many reasons why your period may not come. Some may be a precursor to pregnancy, while for other women it is caused by physical stress or mood. Therefore, only by correctly understanding the causes of the problem can we make correct adjustments and improvements. Because for women, whether menstruation comes or not is a very important health issue.
