Can I eat sand ginger during menstruation?

Can I eat sand ginger during menstruation?

There are many foods that women can eat at other times, but they cannot eat them during their menstrual period. For example, many foods that have the effect of promoting blood circulation are good for our body if eaten at other times, but women cannot eat them during their menstrual period. So, can women eat sand ginger during their menstrual period? If we want to know whether sand ginger is suitable for women during their menstrual period, we need to analyze it carefully.

Sand ginger is what we often call galangal or galangal. It has very high medicinal value and can fight cancer. In addition, it has a good effect on intestinal smooth muscle and has antibacterial effects.

Sand ginger generally refers to Kaempferia galanga, which is also known as sand ginger and mountain spicy. The rhizome is used as medicine to warm the middle and eliminate dampness, promote qi circulation and relieve pain. It is mainly used to treat acute gastroenteritis, indigestion, stomach pain caused by cold, toothache, rheumatic joint pain, and trauma. It is mainly produced in Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan. Sichuan introduced varieties from Guangxi and successfully trial-planted them in Miyi County.

1. Anti-cancer Effect

In 1985, Kosuge T et al. reported that trans-p-methoxycinnamic acid ester isolated from the rhizomes of Kaempferia galanga was a cytotoxic component that had a strong inhibitory effect on human cervical cancer cell lines (Helacells).

2. Effects on intestinal smooth muscle

The rhizome decoction at a concentration of 0.25-0.75% has a stimulating effect on the isolated intestine of guinea pigs. When the concentration increases to 1-1.25%, an inhibitory effect occurs; the saturated aqueous solution of its volatile oil has a similar effect to that of the decoction.

3. Antibacterial effect The root decoction has different degrees of inhibitory effect on 10 common pathogenic fungi, including Trichophyton schrenkiana and its Mongolian variant, Trichophyton concentricum, and Trichophyton violaceum, in vitro.

4. Other effects: Kaempferol has anti-inflammatory effects and vitamin P activity on animals. Its efficacy is similar to that of quercetin, but weaker than that of kaempferol.

The efficacy of Kaempferia

It is mainly used to treat acute gastroenteritis, indigestion, stomach pain caused by cold, toothache, rheumatic joint pain, and traumatic injuries. People with yin deficiency, blood deficiency, and stomach fire should not take galangal.
