Precautions for sugar screening

Precautions for sugar screening

There are many things to pay attention to when doing sugar screening, which is mainly for pregnant women, so for ordinary people, they usually don’t know the precautions for doing sugar screening. In fact, it is very necessary for pregnant women to do sugar screening, because it is not only related to the health of the pregnant woman herself, but it is also likely to be related to the health of the fetus in the womb. Therefore, it is very necessary for every pregnant woman to do sugar screening.

Maybe many friends don’t know about sugar screening. In fact, to put it simply, the so-called sugar screening refers to a diabetes check. This is sugar screening. This check is mainly for pregnant friends. There is no such check for other people. So, let’s introduce in detail the precautions for sugar screening.

Glucose screening is the abbreviation of gestational diabetes screening. If the glucose screening is high-risk, doctors will generally recommend continuing to do glucose tolerance tests to confirm whether gestational diabetes exists. This examination is very important for both the expectant mother and the fetus. Because severe gestational diabetes can threaten the life safety of mother and baby. Therefore, sugar screening is a must.

Sugar screening test precautions

Steps/Methods

Reduce the intake of starch (pasta) and sugar two weeks before the examination.

1) Do not eat high-fat foods and try not to eat sugary foods. Sugary foods here refer to sweets, beverages, and even fruits containing refined sugar that can be directly absorbed by the human body without any conversion, such as: chocolate, cola, lychees, sugar cane, large amounts of watermelons, etc.

2) Eat as little staple food as possible. The amount of staple food for each meal should be less than 2 taels (i.e. eat less pasta, and the amount of staple food such as rice and flour should not exceed half a catty a day). It is best not to drink rice porridge in the morning, you can use milk instead.

3) Eat more vegetables, no less than 500 grams per day, to supplement vitamins and fiber.

4) Drink plenty of water and exercise moderately. Take a walk after meals to burn off excess sugar.

5) Limit the amount of fruit you eat, especially those with high sugar content (change fruits to kiwi, cucumber, tomato, etc. which are not high in sugar. Eat them between meals). Don't eat eggs for dinner.

The day before the sugar screening or glucose tolerance test, it is best to eat light vegetarian food and eat less rice. Make stir-fried bitter melon to lower blood sugar. Do not eat after 8 pm the night before and drink less water. Don't drink powdered sugar too fast, drink it slowly, little by little, don't drink it all in one gulp, drink it within 3-5 minutes. It is best to walk more after drinking, so that the energy will be consumed within an hour, which will help lower blood sugar levels. Master the time for blood drawing. It should be counted one hour after you finish drinking. If you start drinking at 7:10 and finish at 7:20, you have to draw again at 8:20.

In fact, the most important thing to note when doing sugar screening is that pregnant women who are doing the test should pay attention to their diet in daily life. They should start reducing the intake of starch and sugar a few weeks before the sugar screening. This is mainly to make the test results as accurate as possible. In addition, our pregnant friends should also be careful not to eat high-fat foods, eat less staple foods, eat more vegetables, and not eat too much fruit, etc.
