Can I eat mango during menstruation?

There are several special physiological periods in a woman's life, such as menstruation, pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care. During these special periods, we need to strengthen our rest and pay attention to increasing nutrition and conditioning. These menstrual periods of women seem to have no connection with each other, but in fact, this is not the case. These menstrual periods of women are interconnected, so we need to take good care of ourselves in each period.

Menstruation is the most frequent of these special periods. Normal adult women will have menstruation once a month. We cannot eat spicy and cold food during menstruation. Some people think that you can't eat fruits during menstruation, because fruits are cold foods, especially mangoes, which must not be eaten during menstruation. Is this true? Let's find out below.

Mango, also known as anluo fruit, lemon fruit, honey fruit, and fragrant cover, is produced in abundance in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Taiwan and other places in my country. It is rich in vitamins A, B, C as well as protein, carotene, folic acid and other nutrients. Mango is not only a delicious fruit, but also has certain medicinal value. Modern research shows that mango extract mangiferin has multiple benefits such as regulating immunity, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-tumor, antioxidant, analgesic and lowering uric acid. According to traditional Chinese medicine, mango is sweet and sour, cool in nature and non-toxic. It enters the lung, spleen, and stomach meridians and has the effects of clearing away heat and promoting fluid, quenching thirst and promoting urination, benefiting the stomach and stopping vomiting. It is mainly used to treat symptoms such as insufficient stomach yin, thirst and dry throat, loss of appetite, indigestion, dizziness, vomiting, sore throat and hoarseness, cough with sputum, and asthma.

Some people believe that mangoes have the effect of stopping bleeding, which will lead to less menstrual flow and irregular menstruation, so mangoes should not be eaten during menstruation. Is there any basis for this statement? According to traditional Chinese medicine, women are based on blood, blood is the mother of qi, qi is the commander of blood, and blood circulates depending on the rise and fall, entry and exit movement of qi. If Qi and blood are in harmony, menstruation will come as normal. Mango tastes sour and sweet. Sour enters the liver and belongs to wood. The liver stores blood and is responsible for excretion. The liver is the innate part of women. Sweet enters the spleen and belongs to earth. The spleen governs blood and is responsible for transportation and transformation. It is the source of biochemistry and the foundation of acquired constitution. The liver and spleen are closely connected and complement each other in the generation, storage, and circulation of qi and blood. Sour and sweet are in harmony, and their functions are synergistic. They can restrain yin without retaining turbidity, and replenish qi without damaging yin. When qi and blood are harmonized, menstrual blood will flow on time.

Modern medical studies have also shown that mangoside acts on platelet-specific proteins and has an inhibitory effect on platelet aggregation. This coincides with the view in the traditional medicine book "Food Materia Medica" that mango is slightly cold, non-toxic, and can treat menstrual blockage in women. It can be seen that no matter from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine theory or Western medicine research, it cannot be assumed that mango has hemostatic function and affects menstruation.

The above is a brief introduction to whether mangoes can be eaten during menstruation. From it we can understand that although raw and cold food cannot be eaten during menstruation, we can still eat some neutral fruits appropriately. Although mango has the effect of stopping bleeding, it has no special effect on menstruation, so we can also eat mangoes normally during menstruation.
