A comprehensive review of the symptoms of cervical erosion

Cervical erosion is the most common disease among women. It is mostly transformed from acute or chronic cervicitis and is more common in married and weak women. The cause of the disease is mostly due to damage to the cervix during sexual intercourse or childbirth, which allows bacteria to invade and cause the disease. It may also be caused by weak constitution or bacterial infection during menstruation. Normally , one should focus on observing the amount, color, properties, odor and accompanying symptoms of leucorrhea. If the amount of leucorrhea is not much, the color is milky white or egg white-like, and there is a slight fishy smell, but there is no discomfort, then it is physiological leucorrhea.

The following are some common pathological leucorrhea:

Colorless paste-like leucorrhea: The leucorrhea is sticky like paste, with large amount, and often stains the underwear. Except for lower back pain, patients have no other symptoms. It is more common in chronic cervicitis. In addition, women who use more estrogen preparations may also experience this kind of leucorrhea.

Bean-dreg-like leucorrhea: The amount of leucorrhea is large and shaped like bean dregs and is floc-like, accompanied by extreme vaginal itching. This type of leucorrhea is mostly caused by vaginal fungal infection. There are 6 types of vaginitis. What are the differences in the symptoms of each type of vaginitis?

Foamy leucorrhea: The leucorrhea is foamy and abundant, accompanied by itching of the vulva and vagina. If a vaginal leucorrhea smear test is done, active Trichomonas may be detected. This is caused by infection with Trichomonas due to unclean bath water in a tub, pool or sitz bath. This disease is often caused by itching and scratching of the vaginal opening, which leads to purulent infection and the leucorrhea turns into yellow pus and foam.

Purulent leucorrhea: Leucorrhea is yellow or green and pus-like, and is often accompanied by symptoms such as general weakness and low fever. It is likely to be acute vaginitis or cervicitis. Purulence indicates bacterial infection and you should seek medical attention immediately.

Watery leucorrhea: Leucorrhea that is clear like water, often soaks the underwear, and has a foul odor is often a sign of fallopian tube tumors.

Increased leucorrhea is the main symptom of cervical erosion

Cervical erosion is the most common disease among women. It is mostly transformed from acute or chronic cervicitis and is more common in married and weak women. The cause of the disease is mostly due to damage to the cervix during sexual intercourse or childbirth, which allows bacteria to invade and cause the disease. It may also be caused by weak constitution or bacterial infection during menstruation.

The surface of a normal cervix is covered by a layer of squamous epithelium, which is smooth and pink. The deep tissues of the cervix develop chronic inflammation due to infection, which causes the surface epithelium to become nutritionally impaired and fall off. The peeling surface of the epithelium is gradually covered by the columnar epithelium of the cervical canal. The columnar epithelium is very thin, and the blood vessels and red stroma underneath can be seen, so the surface becomes red. This is cervical erosion.

What are the symptoms of cervical erosion:

Increased vaginal discharge is the most important symptom of cervical erosion, which is usually sticky or purulent mucus, sometimes accompanied by a fishy smell, and sometimes blood or bleeding during sexual intercourse. It is followed by vulvar itching, or burning discomfort, lower abdominal or lumbosacral pain, which worsens during sexual intercourse, menstruation and defecation. Some patients also experience weakness in both lower limbs, bitter taste in the mouth, nausea, and yellow urine.

Not everyone has obvious symptoms when they have cervical disease, and many people discover it accidentally during a physical examination. Therefore, regular gynecological examinations are very important for women. The currently commonly used diagnosis of cervical diseases emphasizes "three steps".

What is the reason for increased vaginal discharge?

There are two main reasons for increased vaginal discharge:

One is infectious factors and the other is non-infectious factors. Infectious factors are the common cause of increased leucorrhea. Infections such as bacteria, gonococci, fungi, protozoa, viruses or spirochetes can increase vaginal discharge. Common clinical diseases include Candida albicans vaginitis, Trichomonas vaginitis, gonorrhea, bacterial vaginitis, syphilis, Chlamydia trachomatis cervicovaginitis, cervical erosion, cervical polyps, and endocervicitis. Non-infectious factors include: uterine fibroids, especially submucosal fibroids. As the area of the uterine cavity increases, the amount of uterine cavity discharge increases, and is discharged along with cervical secretions, causing an increase in leucorrhea.

Another reason is that patients with uterine fibroids often have hyperestrogenism. Estrogen can directly cause increased cervical secretions, and some ovulation-inducing drugs can also increase leucorrhea.
