How many days does a woman’s menstrual period usually last?

Menstruation is a normal physiological phenomenon for women. It comes once a month and leaves quietly after a few days. Although it brings all kinds of inconveniences to women and makes them feel troubled, normal menstruation is a sign of good health for women. If a woman's menstrual period is too long or too short, it is abnormal and needs attention. So, how many days does a woman's menstrual period usually last?

Although women have menstruation every month, many women lack knowledge about menstruation. They do not know whether their menstrual cycle is normal. Some women do not even know how many days their menstruation usually lasts. Now, experts will introduce us to the relevant knowledge.

Menstruation, commonly known as period, is the regular vaginal bleeding once a month that occurs when women enter puberty, their ovaries gradually mature and begin to secrete female hormones, and the endometrium changes accordingly. So how many days does a menstrual period usually last? Since everyone's physical constitution is different, it is considered normal as long as it is within your own regular range. However, the normal menstrual period for women generally lasts for 7 to 7 days, and in some cases it is 3 to 5 days. If your period lasts longer than 7 days, it is called a prolonged period. If your period lasts less than 3 days, it is called a short period.

Menstruation is regular, cyclical uterine bleeding. It is also called menstruation, menstrual period, menstrual period, and menstrual leave. Normally a woman's menstrual period lasts about 2-5 days. The general pattern of menstruation is that there is not much menstrual blood on the first day, but it increases on the second and third days, and then gradually decreases until the menstrual blood stops. This is because the shedding of the endometrium has just begun on the first day, and on the second and third days the shedding of the endometrium increases, and the amount of bleeding also increases accordingly. For some people, after their menstrual blood has stopped, it comes back a day or two later. This is commonly known as "menstrual bleeding comes back". This is not a disease but a normal phenomenon. However, some women's menstrual period lasts for 10-20 days, and the menstruation is endless; some women's menstrual period is very short and just passes in a flash. Both phenomena are abnormal.

Menstrual blood is generally dark red and contains, in addition to blood, endometrial fragments, cervical mucus and vaginal epithelial cells. The main characteristic of menstrual blood is that it does not coagulate, but under normal circumstances there are occasionally some small clots.

Since menstruation is a special period for women, it is best to avoid having sex during this period. This is because sexual intercourse will cause congestion in the female genitals, leading to increased menstrual flow and prolonged menstrual period. Moreover, the male reproductive organs may bring bacteria into the vagina. Menstrual blood is a good breeding ground for bacteria and other microorganisms. Bacteria can easily breed and spread along the many tiny wounds and ruptured blood vessels in the endometrium, infecting the endometrium and even affecting the fallopian tubes and pelvic organs, thus causing unnecessary trouble to the woman. Because sperm meets the overflowing blood cells in the damaged endometrium and even enters the blood, it can induce the production of anti-sperm antibodies, thus leading to immune infertility and sterility.

There are usually no special symptoms during menstruation. Some women may have a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral area, some may have bladder irritation symptoms such as frequent urination, mild symptoms of nervous system instability such as headache, insomnia, mental depression, irritability, gastrointestinal dysfunction such as nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, and nasal mucosal bleeding. In general, menstruation does not affect work and study. However, they should not engage in heavy physical labor or strenuous exercise, should avoid taking cold showers and working in paddy fields, and sexual intercourse is prohibited.

From the introduction of the above experts, we have already understood how many days the menstruation usually lasts. Experts said that if a woman has abnormal menstruation, she should be vigilant and check and treat it in time. Otherwise, it is likely to affect her fertility, and then treatment will become more difficult. Women should pay attention to hygiene during menstruation.
