Be a healthy "tumbler"! To prevent the elderly from falling, pay attention to these things

As we age, our bones become more fragile and the risk of falling increases. Falling is the main cause of fractures in the elderly. Let's take a look at the risk factors of falling at the Lingling District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Yongzhou City .

1. People at high risk of falling often fall in the following aspects

The four most common causes of falling:

The most common places to fall: the patient's bedside, toilet

The times when you are most likely to fall: going to the toilet in the middle of the night without turning on the light, lying in bed for a long time, or after squatting.

Activities most likely to cause falls: Rushing to the toilet or going to the toilet in the middle of the night

People who are most likely to fall: elderly people who refuse to accept their age and patients who are afraid of bothering others.

2. How to prevent falls?

1. Wear non-slip shoes and avoid walking in slippers.

2. There are handrails in the ward corridors for patients with walking difficulties or those recovering from surgery.

3. High-risk groups should learn the three steps to get up. Lie flat on your back for one minute after waking up; sit quietly on the bed for one minute; sit by the bed for another minute and then slowly get up.

4. Patients with difficulty walking and decreased vision must be accompanied and assisted by family members.

5. Please get up slowly when getting out of bed, especially when getting out of bed for the first time after surgery.

6. When you need help, please press the call bell. Don’t be bothered and the nurse will come to you.

7. Move slowly when standing up or walking, and avoid standing up suddenly or turning around quickly.

8. When walking outside, avoid wet floors. If you find wet floors, report it to the nurse immediately.

9. When wearing shoes with laces, please be sure to tie the laces to avoid tripping over them.

10. When getting in and out of bed, for safety reasons, you must first lower the bed rails. Do not pass through the gap between the bed rails and avoid crossing the bed rails.

11. Be sure to turn on the light when going to the toilet at night.

12. Place daily necessities in an easily accessible place to avoid falling during the process.

13. If you find that the bed is sliding, please inform the nurse in time to lock the footrest and report it for repair.
