Did the ancients also have myopia? Experts remind: Myopia is more common among children and adolescents, so prevention is the key!

At present, myopia among children and adolescents in my country is showing an early onset and high incidence, and has become a prominent problem affecting children's health and all-round development. With the rapid development of electronic products and some children's addiction to the Internet, the incidence of myopia remains high. Is myopia something that only modern people have?

Professor Qin Yuhui, a famous Chinese medicine doctor and ophthalmologist in Hunan Province, said that in ancient times, there were people with myopia even without electronic products. In ancient times, myopia was called "the disease of being able to see near but afraid of seeing far". According to Chinese medicine, "being able to see near but afraid of seeing far" is caused by the weakness of heart yang, which cannot warm the eyes; or excessive use of eyesight, which consumes qi and damages blood; or deficiency of liver and kidney, which leads to insufficient endowment and causes the eyes to be unable to see far and can only see near.

Myopia in children and adolescents is preventable and controllable. The key is to achieve early prevention, early detection, and early intervention. For children in the prodromal stage of myopia, comprehensive intervention measures such as increasing outdoor activity time and reducing close-range eye load can effectively reduce the occurrence of myopia. In order to protect children's eyesight, the National Health Commission has issued ten core knowledge that parents need to know.
