What are the differences among the various types of milk?

I heard that yogurt is better than pure milk, is it true?

It is said that milk is good. Milk supplements calcium and is suitable for both young and old. You should drink more milk. Milk can promote brain development and prevent osteoporosis. However, there are many rumors about milk. Let's talk about how to drink milk today!

Types of milk

Milk has a high calcium content and is a very good healthy drink. The nutrients contained in milk - protein can remove excess sodium from the blood, prevent the occurrence of atherosclerosis and hypertension, help maintain the elasticity of blood vessels, and delay the possibility of atherosclerosis. Since milk is so good, does it mean that the more you drink, the stronger the cardiovascular protection effect will be? That may not be the case. Studies have shown that for healthy people, drinking 1 pound (about 490 ml) of full-fat dairy products every day is not only good for heart health, but also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death.

So what are the differences between the many types of milk on the market?

1. Fresh milk

Low-temperature sterilization, also known as pasteurized milk, retains trace elements and has better flavor and nutrition.

2. Pure milk

High-temperature instantaneous sterilization will destroy some trace nutrients (vitamins), but the main components protein and calcium will be retained.

3. Whole milk

The fat content is 3%, it is rich in vitamins and minerals, and has a rich and very smooth taste.

4. Low-fat milk

The fat content is 1%~1.5%, some vitamins are lost, and the taste is acceptable.

5. Skim milk

The fat content is 0.5%, a large amount of vitamins are lost, the calories are low, the taste is bland, and the texture is thin.

6. Yogurt

Yogurt retains the original nutrients of milk after fermentation. Its unique lactic acid can stimulate gastric acid secretion and make it easier to absorb.

7. Milk-containing beverages

Milk-containing beverages are not really milk, they contain a lot of extra sugar, emulsifiers and edible flavors.

Note: Although it contains calcium, artificially added calcium is not easily absorbed.

Is yogurt better than pure milk?

Yogurt and milk are both high-quality dairy products with excellent protein and calcium content.

But theoretically good yogurt - that is, yogurt fermented from pure milk without adding sugar or other ingredients - has a poor flavor and most people cannot accept it without flavoring.

The yogurts on the market are basically flavored yogurt and flavored fermented milk with added sugar. The more sugar there is, the lower the overall nutritional value, which is enough to wipe out all possible benefits brought by lactic acid bacteria fermentation.

Therefore, yogurt is not necessarily better than milk.

People who are lactose intolerant and easily get diarrhea after drinking milk should try to choose yogurt with low sugar/carbohydrate content.

Can’t drink milk on an empty stomach?

In addition to protein, milk also contains fat and carbohydrates, both of which can also provide energy. If you are not very hungry, the protein will not necessarily be used for energy, so there is no problem of wasting protein.

To take a step back, even if the person who drinks milk is too hungry and mobilizes the protein to provide energy, there is no need to feel sorry, because the more important purpose of drinking milk is to supplement calcium, and the wasted protein can be replenished by eating more meat, eggs and beans in the next meal.

However, people who are lactose intolerant should not drink milk on an empty stomach because they lack lactase in their bodies. If they drink milk on an empty stomach, the milk will go to the small intestine. The limited lactose in the small intestine does not have time to digest it. The lactose enters the large intestine and can easily cause abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Is room temperature milk less nutritious than low temperature fresh milk?

Fresh milk refers to milk processed by pasteurization, which can preserve the nutritional active substances in milk to a greater extent and taste good, but it must be refrigerated;

Ambient temperature milk is milk that is sterilized at high temperature. Compared with pasteurized milk, it will lose some heat-sensitive vitamins, such as B vitamins, and the flavor will also be worse.

But people drink milk mainly to take in protein and calcium. In this regard, there is almost no difference between pasteurized milk and room temperature milk. Therefore, you don't have to worry too much when choosing, just look at which one is more convenient.

Life is already difficult, so don’t worry too much about drinking milk~ Some people may not be able to drink milk because of rumors about drinking milk, but many people don’t drink enough milk. Take action now and add a few bottles of milk to your family’s table!
