Malignant tumors seriously threaten human health. Early diagnosis and treatment are the key to improving the survival rate and quality of life of tumor patients. Nuclear medicine molecular imaging PET/CT can detect changes at the molecular level in the early stage of tumor occurrence, which is of great significance for the early diagnosis of tumors.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine of the Second Hospital of Jilin University has thoroughly implemented the national innovation-driven development strategy and the Healthy China strategic deployment, placed the protection of people's health in a strategic position of priority development, and attached great importance to promoting the development of people's health through scientific and technological innovation.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine of the Second Hospital of Jilin University has an excellent medical team. Under the leadership of Director Zhao Yinlong, doctors, technicians, and nurses work together and closely cooperate. The department has formed a nuclear medicine team with optimized discipline and professional structure, excellent business, and strong scientific research strength. Doctors in the Department of Nuclear Medicine will regularly follow up on the results of PET/CT examinations to verify the accuracy of the diagnosis to consolidate and improve their business level. PET/CT case follow-up is based on imaging, based on clinical manifestations, and based on pathological results to accurately determine tumor staging, differentiate benign and malignant tumors, locate activity, follow up on efficacy, diagnose recurrence, and screen for tumors. The following are the follow-up results of some cases in June 2024. The PET/CT examination results are all consistent with the pathological results.

PET/CT case follow-up summary

01Differentiation of benign and malignant tumors

PET/CT imaging can not only obtain PET and CT tomographic images of the whole body in all directions, but also accurately find lesions from the metabolic level, detect metabolic abnormalities at an early stage, achieve the goal of early detection and early treatment, and improve the survival rate of patients. In addition, PET/CT can effectively distinguish between benign and malignant tumors.

02Clinical staging and metastasis of tumors

PET/CT is used to accurately stage patients clinically, providing a basis for the clinical formulation of the best treatment plan. ① Based on its fusion images, PET/CT can determine the size and shape of the lesion, as well as whether it has invaded the surrounding tissues, and thus make the T stage of the tumor. ② PET/CT can evaluate the metabolism of cancer cells before the anatomical structure changes, better determine the metastatic status of the lymph nodes, and thus accurately make the N stage. ③ PET/CT can detect occult metastatic lesions in the adrenal glands, liver, bones and other parts. In addition, a PET/CT scan can image the whole body, avoid blind examinations, and save patients' examination time.

Case follow-up 18

PET/CT accurately identifies the nature of prostate lesions and assesses metastasis.

03Evaluation and diagnosis of tumor efficacy Recurrence and recurrence of tumors

After treatment, the morphological changes of the tumor lag behind the changes in the tumor metabolic information. If the re-examination of PET/CT shows that the tumor metabolic activity is reduced, it indicates that the treatment is effective. Even if there is recurrence or metastasis after treatment, it can be detected earlier through metabolic information, so that the treatment plan can be adjusted in time to prolong the patient's survival time.

Case follow-up 20

PET/CT accurately diagnoses the nature and metastasis of recurrent tumors after comprehensive treatment of bladder cancer.

Case follow-up 21

PET/CT accurately diagnoses the nature and metastasis of recurrent breast cancer after comprehensive treatment.
