"If you don't dry your quilt in the sun for years, millions of mites will sleep with you"

Don't think this is a joke.

Quilts are items we come into contact with every day.

If you are not careful, it will become a "hotbed" for the breeding of mites and bacteria

How long has it been since you dried your quilt?

How should we dry the quilt correctly?

01

Why do quilts become damp and infested with insects?

We know that during sleep, the body will continue to metabolize and excrete sweat. In addition, the air in the bedroom also has a certain humidity, especially in the south. After using the quilt for a period of time, it will naturally accumulate a lot of sweat and absorb moisture in the air, slowly becoming damp. If the bedroom is too humid, such as during the rainy season in the south, mold may also form.

Besides being damp, another problem that cannot be ignored is dust mites. There is nothing that dust mites love more than a quilt that has not been exposed to the sun for years. The accumulated dampness and human dandruff are a paradise for dust mites. It is said that the 0.5-1 gram of dandruff shed by an adult every day can feed one million dust mites.

*The direct health hazard caused by dust mites is allergy. Not only live dust mites, but also the dead bodies and secretions of dust mites can become allergens. Among the allergens of allergic rhinitis and asthma patients in my country, dust mites rank first. It can be said that they harm countless people.

02

The correct way to open the quilt

Regularly drying quilts in the sun can not only sterilize and inhibit the reproduction of mites, but also make the quilt fluffy and soft, and restore the warmth of the quilt. However, you should also choose the right time and use the right method to dry the quilt.

Choose the right time to dry your quilt

Don't dry the quilt in the early morning or evening, because the humidity in the air is very high during these periods, and the quilt may become more and more damp. The recommended drying time is 10:30-14:30, when the ultraviolet rays are sufficient. Put it back in time after drying. But don't pack it up immediately to avoid moisture, bacteria or mold. You can hang the quilt to dry first, and then store it after it cools down.

You can pat the quilt appropriately when drying it

The purpose of patting the quilt is, on the one hand, to make the quilt more fluffy and improve its warmth retention; on the other hand, it can remove dust, dead mites and excrement in the quilt, and completely eliminate allergens.

Some people say that if you beat a quilt, the fibers inside will break, but this is a bit exaggerated. If the quilt cover is thicker, such as cotton or polyester cotton, it is not a big problem. If it is silk, it is best not to beat it with hard tools.

Don't sunbathe for too long

Wool quilts, down quilts, and silk quilts are made of protein fibers, which are actually not very sun-resistant, so it is best not to expose such quilts to the sun. It is best to dry them in a cool and ventilated place. Even in relatively humid conditions, do not expose them to the sun for more than 1 hour.

Cotton and linen are natural cellulose fibers and are more sun-resistant than protein fibers. However, it is best not to exceed 4 hours, 2-3 hours is appropriate.

Quilts made of chemical fibers, especially polyester and acrylic fibers, are more sun-resistant and can be exposed to the sun for 4-5 hours. Since they do not absorb moisture very well, 2-3 hours of exposure is usually enough.

Drying frequency is recommended once a week

If the quilt is not used for a long time or is newly purchased, it should be aired before use to ensure that the quilt is dry and hygienic. It is recommended to air the quilt once a week for the quilt that is currently in use.

It is recommended that the side of the quilt that touches the body should face the sun

The best way to dry the quilt is to let the side that touches the body face the sun. Firstly, this protects the material of the quilt cover. Secondly, the inside of the quilt is in contact with the human body more, and direct exposure to the sun can achieve a better drying effect.
