A few days ago, a patient with liver cirrhosis came to the outpatient clinic. During the follow-up examination, the color ultrasound showed liver nodules, which scared the patient a lot. He once thought it was liver cancer. I looked at the ultrasound report and found that the nodule was not big, only about 2 centimeters, which was a small nodule. Generally, even if it is malignant, it is easy to treat. The patient was very nervous and took the time to do an MRI, which clarified the nature of the nodule and found it was benign! First of all, we need to understand that cirrhosis itself is not a type of cancer, it is a chronic progressive liver disease, mainly due to long-term liver inflammation, viral infection, alcohol abuse, etc. However, when cirrhosis develops to a certain stage, the liver tissue may change and form small nodules. These nodules can sometimes be benign or malignant, that is, liver cancer. In patients with cirrhosis, the presence of nodules does increase the risk of cancer, because the liver of patients with cirrhosis is already in a damaged state, and nodules may be a manifestation of further deterioration of this damage. Liver cancer is a highly malignant tumor that may not have obvious symptoms in its early stages. Therefore, regular physical examinations are particularly important for patients with cirrhosis. Once a liver nodule is found, the doctor will usually conduct further examinations, such as CT scans, MRI or ultrasound examinations. Sometimes a histological examination may be required to obtain a nodule tissue sample through puncture to determine the nature of the nodule. It is worth noting that although patients with cirrhosis and nodules do face a higher risk of cancer, not all nodules will develop into cancer. Lifestyle adjustments, following the doctor's instructions, regular monitoring and appropriate treatment are all measures to reduce the risk of cancer and delay the progression of the disease. Finally, it is also very important for patients with cirrhosis to maintain a good attitude. Although cirrhosis is a chronic disease, through scientific and reasonable treatment and good self-management, the patient's quality of life and life expectancy can be significantly improved! |
