Tongguan Disease Control

AIDS is caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is a progressive immune deficiency characterized by a decrease in human CD4+T lymphocytes. In the later stages of the disease, it can lead to a variety of opportunistic infections, tumors, and central nervous system lesions.

Since the first case of AIDS was discovered in 1981, although AIDS is still incurable, with the development of science and technology, AIDS has long been transformed from a "killer of the century" into a preventable, controllable and curable chronic infectious disease. As long as early detection and early treatment are achieved, and good medication compliance is maintained throughout life, the life expectancy of HIV-infected people can be close to the average life expectancy of healthy people.

How AIDS is spread

1

Sexual transmission

Transmitted through sexual contact, including unprotected same-sex, heterosexual, and bisexual contact.

2

Blood transmission

Transmission through blood and blood products, including sharing needles for drug injection, unsafe and unregulated interventional medical procedures, tattoos, etc.

3

Mother-to-child transmission

Transmission from mother to child, including intrauterine infection, delivery and breastfeeding.

Testing is the only way to know if you are infected with HIV

Early detection and early treatment are crucial

Why?

What are the benefits of early detection?

1

Early detection

International reports show that the average duration of the asymptomatic infection period (latent period) of AIDS is about 8 years. It is important to note that in my country, the disease progresses faster among men who have sex with men with HIV, and it takes an average of 4.8 years after infection to reach the AIDS stage. During this period, the infected person may not have any symptoms, and it is impossible to tell whether they are infected with HIV by their appearance. Only by testing as early as possible can you understand your infection status.

2

Early treatment

After knowing your infection status, you can take appropriate measures, such as receiving antiviral treatment as soon as possible and using condoms correctly throughout sexual intercourse. This can not only protect yourself from further harm from the virus, but also prevent your sexual partners from being infected with HIV.

3

Early block

Pregnant women infected with HIV can take measures to prevent mother-to-child transmission under the guidance of a professional doctor and give birth to a healthy baby.

What are the benefits of early treatment?

1

Delay disease progression and prolong life

Early treatment can prolong life. The later the treatment, the more severe the damage to the immune function and the less likely it is to recover.

2

Reduce complications and opportunistic infections

Starting treatment early can maintain the immune system at a certain level, significantly reducing the risk of AIDS patients developing renal dysfunction, osteoporosis, myocardial infarction, cancer, etc., and preventing the occurrence of other opportunistic infections.

3

Reduce drug side effects

The earlier the treatment, the fewer the side effects. The later the treatment, the weaker the body will be. In addition, if there are multiple complications, multiple drugs will need to be taken at the same time, which will be difficult for the body to tolerate and recover.

4

Reducing the financial burden

Our government provides free drugs for the treatment of AIDS, but if infected people delay treatment and develop co-infections and other diseases, individuals will need to spend high costs on testing and treatment.
