A senior boy was almost blocked from removing his glasses because of low corneal stability

"My cornea cannot meet the requirements of laser myopia surgery. I didn't expect that the lens implant myopia surgery allowed me to successfully take off my glasses." On October 4, during a follow-up examination the day after the operation, Zeng, whose vision in both eyes reached 1.2, praised the various myopia surgery methods currently available.

Zeng, a 21-year-old senior, wanted to take advantage of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays to have myopia surgery and remove his glasses. After much research online, he chose femtosecond surgery.

On September 29, Zeng came to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University. After examination, Zeng's right eye vision was 0.25, myopia was 175 degrees; left eye vision was 0.5, myopia was 150 degrees. However, the corneal topography and biomechanical examination results showed that the corneal morphology was poor, the front and back surface data were different from the normal level, and there was a high risk of keratoconus.

After reading Zeng's examination report, Liu Hongting, chief physician of the refractive department of the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University, said that although Zeng's myopia degree is low, the stability of his corneal morphology is far lower than the requirements of laser corneal refractive surgery. For the sake of corneal safety in the future, laser corneal refractive surgery is not recommended for him, but lens implantation surgery can be considered.

On October 2nd and 3rd, Zeng completed the artificial lens implantation surgery for both eyes.

Director Liu Hongting introduced that ICL can correct myopia in the range of 50 degrees to 1800 degrees. If the corneal condition does not allow laser corneal refractive surgery, or if people are more concerned about the reversibility of ICL, they can also consider ICL intraocular lens implantation. She reminded: Myopia surgery is now very mature, but the surgery still has a certain scope of application. The eye conditions of each patient are different.
