Information for cataract patients: Choice of intraocular lens

Currently, cataracts are treated by replacing the cloudy lens with a transparent artificial lens through surgery. Many cataract patients are troubled by the choice of artificial lens before surgery. In fact, the more expensive the artificial lens, the better it is. The choice of artificial lens requires detailed preoperative examination and planning, and comprehensive consideration of factors such as the patient's actual situation and the requirements for visual quality.

Today I will introduce you to the types of artificial lenses in detail. Artificial lenses are mainly divided into the following categories.

1. Monofocal intraocular lens

A monofocal intraocular lens can only form an image at a fixed focus. It does not have the ability to adjust and can only be used to see near or far. After the operation, you will need to wear reading glasses or myopia glasses.

2. Bifocal intraocular lens

It is clearer when looking at close distances (reading distance) and far distances (about 5 meters or more), but slightly worse at medium distances (such as watching TV).

3. Trifocal intraocular lens

After surgery, the trifocal intraocular lens can be adjusted easily and freely, whether it is long-distance vision, close-up reading, needle threading, or medium-distance computer use and driving, so that we can have comfortable vision all the way. At the same time, the implantation of trifocal intraocular lens has also become an ideal choice for one-stop solution to cataracts, presbyopia and myopia.

4. Astigmatism-correcting intraocular lenses

Provide personalized customization for different patients, solving cataracts while solving refractive problems such as astigmatism.

Hua Xia, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that the selection of artificial lenses for cataracts requires specific analysis of specific issues. Patients can choose the artificial lenses that suit them based on their living habits, financial situation, and eye needs, and refer to the doctor's advice.
