Can loquat really relieve cough? The truth is...

In fact, the familiar "Sichuan Bei Loquat Paste" uses loquat leaves instead of loquat fruit. Experiments have shown that loquat leaves contain a compound that has anti-inflammatory and cough-relieving effects. In addition to loquat leaves, another study using mice as research subjects also showed that an alcohol extract from loquat flowers can relieve cough and expectorant.

Therefore, the use of loquat leaves as medicine does not mean that its fruit can also relieve cough and asthma. It is just an ordinary fruit .

But if we put aside the medicinal value, the flesh of loquat is actually very nutritious. Generally, the loquats we can see are divided into two types: red flesh and white flesh . Experiments have shown that the carotene content in red flesh loquat is 26.6 times that of white flesh loquat. These carotenes can be converted into vitamin A in the body, which can relieve visual fatigue, maintain the health of skin and mucous membranes, and regulate immunity . But when we eat loquat, we must not eat the core of the loquat . Its core is one of the materials for making amygdalin, which will decompose into benzaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid in the body, which can easily cause cyanide poisoning.

If you have a cough, don't expect that eating loquats will help. You still need to seek medical attention immediately .
