About the effective way to treat cataracts! Is there any "special medicine"?

As people age, their eyes also age. Cataracts are a type of "aging" phenomenon in the eyes. As we age, the lens gradually becomes cloudy and no longer clear and transparent, which is called cataracts. This is an inevitable and unstoppable natural process, just like graying hair.

Cataracts begin to occur gradually after the age of 50, and the incidence rate increases with age. The incidence rate of cataracts at the age of 60 is about 70%, and the incidence rate of cataracts at the age of 80 and above is almost 100%.

It’s just that some people develop the disease early and quickly, with their vision deteriorating to the point where they must receive treatment in their 50s; whereas some elderly people develop the disease slowly, and their daily life is not affected even at the age of 80.

Is surgery the only treatment for cataracts? Is there any "magic medicine"?

So far, there is no drug that can effectively treat cataracts. The only effective method is surgery, which is the consensus of ophthalmologists around the world.

Many elderly people are afraid of surgery and choose to believe in the effects of some drugs. They miss the best time for surgery and end up blind in the late stage, which is irreversible. Cataract surgery technology is relatively mature, with small incisions and little trauma. A skilled doctor can complete the surgery in just ten minutes. There is no need to worry too much about the safety of the surgery.

If the eye is compared to a camera, the lens is the "lens", and cataracts are equivalent to the "lens" being blurred, and needing to be replaced with a "new lens". The "new lens" for cataract patients is called an "artificial lens", which is a very clear lens.

Cataract surgery technology is relatively mature, with small incisions and minimal trauma, and a skilled doctor can complete the operation within a dozen minutes. However, patients who are very old, have chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, or have eye diseases such as high myopia, glaucoma, and fundus problems need to undergo cataract surgery when their condition is under control.

If you have cataracts and feel that the vision loss caused by cataracts has affected your daily life (generally speaking, the vision is less than 0.5), you can consider surgery. Of course, the premise is to choose a professional ophthalmology institution for surgery.
