My front teeth were broken 3 times while chewing duck neck. How did the teeth get destroyed?

China Science and Technology News Network, February 1 (Jin Xi)

Have you ever paid attention to your teeth? Teeth are the hardest tissue in our body, almost as hard as crystal, but even so, teeth can be "ruined" by some bad habits. A woman in Wuhan, Hubei, had her front teeth broken three times because she loved to chew duck necks and sugar canes.

Our teeth are mainly composed of enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. The outermost layer of enamel is very hard and has the function of crushing food and protecting internal tissues; dentin is the main part of the tooth, located in the inner layer of enamel and cementum; and the innermost pulp is located in the pulp cavity and root canal inside the tooth, containing nerve tissue, which is very sensitive to external stimuli and will produce unbearable severe pain.

Tooth decay may happen unconsciously, such as incorrect brushing, not rinsing the mouth after eating, etc. However, the most common behavior is to use teeth to pry open bottle caps or bite nut shells, which can easily cause tooth cracks. Although the teeth may not feel obvious pain at the time and there are no obvious symptoms in the early stage, over time, you may feel pain when biting your teeth and be sensitive to hot and cold stimuli.

Many people do not have the habit of cleaning their teeth regularly, and some even think that cleaning their teeth will make the gaps between teeth bigger and bigger. However, if you do not clean your teeth for a long time, your teeth will easily become inflamed.

After we eat, food residues will remain in the gaps between our teeth, which provide conditions for the growth of dental plaque. Even brushing and flossing every day cannot guarantee that dental plaque will be completely removed. When dental plaque and soft scale accumulate more and more, they will gradually calcify and harden to form dental calculus. A large amount of dental calculus accumulated on the gums will increase the probability of gum inflammation, causing red and swollen gums, bleeding, bad breath and even tooth loss, so regular teeth cleaning is like regular cleaning.

In addition to the pain caused by bad teeth, the health of teeth is related to the health of many organs in the body. For example, periodontal bacterial infection that causes periodontal disease can lead to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and pneumonia in the elderly is closely related to dental diseases. In addition, if there are dental diseases, the chewing function is affected, which will definitely affect the digestion and absorption capacity of the stomach, thereby inducing stomach diseases.
