Fragment warning! Orthokeratology contact lenses are also afraid of "cold"

Fragment warning! Orthokeratology contact lenses are also afraid of "cold"

Winter is here, the temperature drops sharply

Everyone has put on thick winter clothes, right?

But do you know?

Not only do we need to keep warm

Orthokers also need to be kept warm

12-year-old Jiajia (pseudonym) has been wearing orthokeratology lenses for half a year, and her vision has been stable. Recently, the temperature was close to zero degrees at night, and Jiajia always used cold hands to clean her orthokeratology lenses. Unexpectedly, one of them broke last week. In order not to affect her child's vision, her mother quickly took Jiajia to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University to get a new pair of glasses. "Doctor, why did the orthokeratology lenses suddenly break?" The parent was puzzled.

Yan Binxian, a national first-level (senior) optometrist and deputy director of the optometry department of Wuhan University Aier Eye Hospital , said that orthokeratology lenses are hard gas-permeable contact lenses with a thin center. The lenses become brittle when exposed to cold, which increases the number of orthokeratology lens breakages in winter. Therefore, in order to avoid lens breakage and affect normal wearing, in winter, we should not only pay attention to the "warmth" of orthokeratology lenses, but also pay more attention to their care and cleaning.

Winter usage guide

1. Suitable temperature of care solution

When the room temperature is low, the brittleness of the orthokeratology lenses will increase, and improper operation may cause the lenses to break. Therefore, when cleaning the lenses, do not use a too low temperature care solution or saline solution, and try to keep the temperature between 10 and 20 degrees to avoid damage to the orthokeratology lenses and eyes.

2. Keep your hands soft

Usually when the weather is cold, people's skin will become dry and hard, especially the hands. Hard skin can easily damage orthokeratology lenses. Therefore, when cleaning, in addition to washing your hands, you must also keep them soft. It is recommended to wash your hands with warm water before care. This can not only keep your hands warm, but also keep your skin soft. Try to use your ring finger to rub the lens to reduce scratches on the lens surface and prevent your fingers from losing sensitivity.

3. Cut off the long nails

In winter, when orthokeratology lenses are more fragile, nails will inevitably touch the lenses during care, leaving scratches on the lenses and affecting their use. In addition, during care, the bacteria in the nails will be contaminated on the orthokeratology lenses and brought into the eyes, causing eye infection. Therefore, cut off the nails that are too long and don't let them become the culprit of harming your eyes.

4. Proper storage

Special attention must be paid to the storage of orthokeratology lenses in winter. They should be stored in a room with a suitable temperature. They should not be left alone in a car or in a place with very low temperature, as low temperature will damage the lenses.

Zhou Chao, a national first-level (senior) optometrist, deputy leader of the optometry group of Aier Eye Hospital Group, and director of the optometry department of Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University, reminds that when orthokeratology lenses are cracked or deformed, they should stop wearing them and go to the hospital for a detailed examination to determine whether to continue using them, so as to avoid hurting the eyes; if the orthokeratology lenses are broken, it is recommended that parents take their children to get a patch as soon as possible. In addition, parents should follow the doctor's advice and take their children to the ophthalmology hospital for a follow-up examination on time to better monitor the child's vision correction.
