Blood banks across the country are in urgent need of blood donation

Science Fiction Network, December 21 (Xu Mingyang) According to the China Business News, recently, blood banks in many places across the country have been in urgent need of blood, which will affect the rescue of pregnant women and critically ill patients. Many blood centers are calling on citizens who meet the blood donation conditions to actively participate in blood donation.

What we mean by blood donation is voluntary blood donation, that is, blood donors voluntarily donate their own blood to social welfare in order to save other people's lives. Blood collection and supply institutions may give blood donors some snacks or souvenirs.

Blood donation is mainly divided into two types: whole blood donation and blood component donation.

Whole blood donation is common in daily life. It refers to the process of collecting all blood components at one time. There are usually two specifications: 200mL and 400mL. Generally speaking, the interval between whole blood donations should be no less than 6 months.

Donating blood components means donating a certain component of human blood, including platelets, plasma, granulocytes, and hematopoietic stem cells. Platelets are important cells that maintain the integrity of blood vessel walls and are also the main functional cells for early hemostasis. They can be used to treat certain cancers and organ transplants, and help prevent heavy bleeding during surgery. The main function of plasma is to carry blood cells, transport substances needed to maintain human life activities and waste produced in the body, etc. It is composed of water, salts, enzymes, antibodies and other components. Plasma can be used to prepare biological products including immunoglobulins, albumin solutions and coagulation factors. Hematopoietic stem cells are a type of cell that can self-renew, have strong differentiation, development and regeneration capabilities, and can produce various types of blood cells. They can treat malignant blood diseases, bone marrow failure and other diseases.

The age group for voluntary blood donation in our country is 18-55 years old, but not everyone is suitable for blood donation. Patients with tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, viral hepatitis, blood disease, etc. are not allowed to donate blood.

After donating blood, you should pay attention to supplementing nutrition and eat foods containing protein, iron, folic acid and vitamin B12, but be careful not to overeat, drink alcohol or strong tea. It is also not advisable to do strenuous exercise after donating blood, and you should pay attention to rest.
