RAVE Reviews: Microsoft, Sony and Tesla are among the most hated brands

According tomedia reports, RAVE Reviews pointed out in a recent study that "Microsoft has won the crown of the most hated brand in 22 countries," which evaluated the positive or negative content of more than one million tweets related to the brand.

The report said this was an interesting study because it seems that the more hate a brand attracts, the more popular it becomes. "(…) Just look at Disney. We found that more than a third (34.32%) of tweets about Disney were negative about the brand – yet Disney’s stock price has risen 125% in the last year, even with its theme parks closed," the report said.

"When you give in to hate, your tweets provide free publicity for the dark side (whatever you think that dark side is). And the brands we hate the most are often the least hypocritical. It's better to polarize opinion than to not inspire it at all."

If all the brands surveyed were included, Uber emerged as the most hated brand in the United States, United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia. In the United States, Lego, Sony, Microsoft, and Netflix ranked behind Uber. However, Lego received the majority of hateful comments.

The team also curated a list of the 100 largest global brands based on search volume and found that Sony received the most hate comments in about 10 countries. As an electronics manufacturer, game console brand and film producer, the Japanese conglomerate is well positioned to get fans' attention in every decision made by Sony executives. Tesla followed closely behind.

The research team calculated the percentage of negative tweets and ranked brands by location and category to find out the most hated brands in the U.S. and around the world. It's a pretty revealing report with many interesting facts. Click this link to view the full report.
