TechWeb: LTPO-AMOLED smartphone panel shipments are expected to reach 148 million units in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 94%

According to foreign media reports, affected by concerns about the global economic downturn, the demand for consumer electronics has also declined significantly. The demand for smartphones, as an important product in the consumer electronics field, has also declined.

In its latest report, the research institute predicted that the size of the global smartphone market will shrink significantly this year, with shipments expected to reach 1.425 billion units, a year-on-year decline of 18%.

Smartphone shipments are expected to decline significantly year-on-year, which means that demand for panels, a key component, will also decline.

However, the research institute also stated in the report that although the demand for panels for smartphones will decrease, the shipment volume of smartphone panels such as LTPO-AMOLED is expected to increase significantly, reaching 148 million units this year, a year-on-year increase of 94% .

The two types of panels that will see a sharp decline in smartphone panel shipments are LTPS AMOLED and LCD. Research institutions predict that LTPS AMOLED smartphone panel shipments will decline by 19% this year to 44 million units, while LCD panel shipments will decline by 26% year-on-year.

The significant increase in shipments of LTPO-AMOLED panels will also boost the revenue of related manufacturers. Currently, this type of smartphone panels are mainly produced by Samsung Display and LG Display. Research institutions predict that their share of panel revenue will increase from 58% last year to 64%.
