JakPat: 90% of Indonesian mobile Internet users aged 16 to 35 visit Facebook

According to JakPat data, 9 out of 10 mobile Internet users aged 16 to 35 in Indonesia used Facebook in January 2016, and 7 out of 10 visited Instagram.

JakPat investigated the usage of all channels and found that apart from these two social media, no other social platform can attract the majority of young Indonesian mobile netizens. About 40% have used Twitter and about 36.3% have visited Path.

Interestingly, older respondents drove Facebook usage, with 80.9% of mobile Internet users aged 16 to 19 having visited Facebook, 86.1% of mobile Internet users aged 20 to 25 having visited Facebook, and 94.2% of mobile Internet users aged 30 to 35 having visited Facebook.

However, the opposite is true for Instagram, where the penetration rate is 55.8% among mobile Internet users aged 30 to 35, but it reaches 74% among Internet users aged 16 to 25.

Meanwhile, Twitter usage is similar across all age groups. Other social platforms clearly have very different user patterns, with Google+ attracting younger users, Path more appealing to people in their 20s, LinkedIn most popular among older respondents, and Snapchat most appealing to teenagers.

eMarketer estimates that 27.9% of Indonesia's population will be mobile Internet users in 2015, and this year the figure will reach 31.5%.
