According to the latest data from market research company comScore on September 5 , 2012 , Apple's share of the US smartphone market is slightly higher than 33%, an increase of 2 percentage points from April this year. ComScore also found through its survey that Android's market share exceeded 52% - an increase of 1.4 percentage points from April, and it is still the leader among major smartphone platforms.

The biggest loser was, not surprisingly, Research in Motion, which ranked third with 9.5 percent of the market. Microsoft's efforts in the mobile market have also yet to bear fruit, with its market share falling by 0.4 percentage points to 3.6 percent in recent months, rather than growing.

Samsung remains the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the US market with a market share of 25.6%, down 0.3 percentage points from April, followed by LG (18.4%) and Apple (16.3%, up 1.9 percentage points from April).

Mobile phone users are starting to use their phones more. ComScore data also showed that compared with April, the number of mobile phone users sending text messages, downloading applications, accessing social networks and running browsers has increased.
