Business Insider: Research shows that the average Facebook user spends 7 times more time browsing than Twitter

People often talk about the number of users of social networks because this is the core competitive advantage of social networks. With the emergence of new social networks, people's network activities have become more fragmented, so it is necessary to add other indicators to compare various social networks. This is especially important for companies that want to run their businesses through social networks. Business Insider published a social network report, the main points are as follows:

1. Social networking is the most important Internet activity for people. The average American spends 37 minutes a day on social media, more than they spend on any other Internet activity, including email.

2. The trend of users using mobile devices is significant. 60% of the time people spend on social networks is spent on mobile terminals such as smartphones and tablets.

3. Facebook is the king of social networks, and not just in terms of number of users. In the U.S., people spend 114 billion minutes on Facebook each month, including accessing the Internet via PCs and smartphones. In comparison, Instagram spends 8 billion minutes and Twitter spends only 5.3 billion minutes.

4. If the average browsing time per user is used as an indicator, Facebook is about 7 times that of Twitter.

5. Snapchat has fewer users than WhatsApp, but if calculated by average browsing time per user, Snapchat is more than WhatsApp.

6. In 2013, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Linkedin made significant progress in mobile devices and applications. Business Insider believes that in the future, social networks will not only focus on increasing the number of users, but also on being able to be applied to multiple devices to demonstrate their competitive advantage.

7. Business Insider designed a social media engagement index to compare the effectiveness of different social networks in engaging users across multiple devices. The results are as follows: Facebook is 50.7, Instagram is 13.5, Twitter is 7.4, Snapchat is 6.6, and WhatsApp is 4.6.
