Flurry: Research shows that more female users play mobile and social games

According to a report from Flurry, a mobile app analytics provider, more women play games than men, at least when it comes to mobile and mobile social games, with Zynga's FarmVille and Popcap's Plants vs. Zombies at the top of the list for female users.

According to the report, more than half (53% to be exact) of mobile and social games players are women, which is disrupting the typical male entertainment format. According to the report, only 40% of traditional game players are women.

The report also found that female social game players are generally older than male players, with female players outnumbering male players in the 26-65 age group. Male players barely outnumber female players in the 18-24 age group. About a third of mobile social game players are in the same age group (18-24), while about half of mobile social game players are between 26 and 44 years old.

According to the report, a large portion of mobile social gamers appear to be middle class, earning between $50,000 and $80,000 per year. Mobile social gamers typically earn more than 50 percent of the U.S. median income and are twice as likely to have a bachelor's degree. The majority (around 65%) of mobile social gamers are also white.

According to the report, Flurry found that 250 million devices run Apple's iPhone operating system and Google's Android mobile operating system, and found that there are about 750,000 new activations per day on both operating systems. Flurry also tracked about 26 million unique players who spend an average of 25 minutes per day playing social games.
