Research shows that the number of people using social networks to follow their favourite sports teams has nearly doubled from 13% to 21% in the past year. The report, by digital sports agency Perform, found that Twitter is a particularly popular place for sports fans to follow athletes and football clubs, while sites like Facebook are used to discuss matches in real time. In addition, 35% of users agree that they are more likely to have a favourable impression of a brand that is associated with their favourite sports brand on social platforms. Four in 10 sports fans will interact with brand promotions related to sports content on social networks. Mobile devices have also become a popular way for users to access sports content. Especially among the 24-34 age group, 32% of fans use smartphones to read sports news. |
