After examination, Manman's myopia was over 700 degrees in both eyes, but the thickness of the cornea was only 430 microns, so laser surgery could not be used to correct myopia. In addition, because Manman's anterior chamber was shallow and the space in the eyeball was small, she could not undergo lens implantation. "Ah? I thought I could have myopia surgery right away, and anyone could do it!" she said sadly.

For example, patients with severe amblyopia, keratoconus, glaucoma, etc. with extremely poor corrected vision are not recommended to undergo surgery. Myopia patients who meet the basic requirements can undergo further detailed preoperative examinations, including refraction, corneal thickness, fundus, etc., to determine whether they are suitable for myopia surgery and which type of myopia surgery is suitable based on the examination results.

Who is suitable for myopia surgery?

Myopia surgery is suitable for patients who are over 18 years old, with myopia within 1800 degrees, astigmatism within 600 degrees, and whose myopia and astigmatism have been stable in the past two years (the annual change is within 50 degrees).

In what cases are myopia surgery not suitable?

1. Under 18 years old, myopia is not stable

Generally speaking, it is not recommended for minors under the age of 18 to undergo myopia surgery. This is because the bodies of minors are still growing and developing, and their vision may not be stable. In this case, if they undergo myopia surgery, it is possible that after the surgery corrects the existing vision, new myopia will occur due to normal growth and development of the body.

2. Eye diseases that are not suitable for myopia surgery

There are some eye diseases that are also absolute contraindications for myopia surgery, such as keratoconus or other types of corneal ectasia, severe dry eyes, active eye lesions or infections, severe ocular adnexal lesions, uncontrolled glaucoma, cataracts that affect vision, etc.

In addition, myopic patients whose corneal thickness does not meet the requirements are not suitable for laser myopia surgery. If they want to undergo myopia surgery, they can check to confirm whether ICL lens implantation can be chosen to correct their vision.

3. Physical or psychological symptoms that make you unsuitable for myopia surgery

The patient has systemic connective tissue diseases or autoimmune diseases, severe psychological or psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety and depression, or suffers from diseases that make it difficult to cooperate with examinations and surgery, such as epilepsy, hysteria, etc.

The eye condition of each patient is different, so it is necessary to go to a professional ophthalmology medical institution for a comprehensive eye examination.
