On December 29, 2011 , the US market research company Pingdom released a ranking of global Facebook usage. Although the total number of Facebook users in the United States still ranks first in the world, compared with the total population, its Facebook usage rate ranks only 7th.

Pingdom data shows that 95% of Internet users in Cyprus have Facebook accounts, and almost all Internet users are using Facebook, making it the country with the highest Facebook usage rate in the world, with Hong Kong, China, ranking second. Chile ranks third, with the number of Facebook accounts exceeding the number of Internet users. This may be caused by statistical errors or one Internet user may have multiple accounts, such as one for work and one for private life.

Facebook usage in India is only 3.42%.

Pingdom also refuted previous reports in its survey results that the Philippines has the highest Facebook usage rate in the world. According to the current statistical method, only 28.76% of Internet users in the Philippines have registered Facebook accounts, not 93.9% as previously reported.

Facebook claims that 70% of its user growth comes from users outside the United States. However, Pingdom believes that this proportion may be as high as 80%. There are currently more than 800 million Facebook users out of the world's 7 billion people.
