[Creative Cultivation Program] Is a childhood without stings incomplete? No, a childhood without stings is safe!

With the arrival of summer vacation, the happiest time of summer for children has also begun. Looking back on our summer vacation, in addition to having fun, we also occasionally get into trouble.

Recently, a mother shared a video on a social media platform showing her son taking her to her hometown in Sichuan during the summer vacation. Out of curiosity, the son poked a beehive and was stung, with half of his face swollen like a bun. Netizens saw the child's appearance and said, "Although it's pitiful, I still laughed out loud," and "Now his childhood is really complete."

Although this makes your childhood perfect, being stung by a bee is actually very dangerous, and in serious cases it can be life-threatening.

Why do bees attack humans?

Most bees in the world can live in harmony with humans and are harmless to humans, but they are not infallible. In addition to deliberately provoking the other party and causing yourself to be stung, bees will also actively attack for a variety of reasons.

In our perception, bees are relatively gentle, but they can also fight to the death with you in some situations. For example, if you accidentally approach them when they have lost their queen and are leaderless and in chaos, or during the breeding season, they may attack you indiscriminately.

Their cousins, the wasps, are more aggressive and neurotic, especially in the fall.

This is the season for them to return to their nests, and their growth, development, reproduction and nest-building speed are faster than before. In addition, there are no flowers to pick and no honey to brew during this period, so they are bored and are more willing to "seek trouble". The attacks of hornets can be described as inexplicable and difficult to guard against, but there are traces to be found. For example, if you accidentally enter the range of the hive, the smell on your body attracts the attention of the other party, and you unconsciously make some waving movements, you may be regarded as a threat by the worker bees. Then, it will call its partners to attack in groups, and it may even be relentless and chase for a hundred meters.

Compared to bees that kill one thousand enemies but lose eight hundred of their own, the consequences of being stung by a hornet are more serious.

The tail of a wasp has a stinger that is more than one centimeter long and has barbs on it, so it is not easy to pull out after stinging someone. At the same time, because the stinger is inside the wasp's body and connected to its venom gland, and there is no venom gland cover on the wasp's stinger, it can attack repeatedly. In this process, the venom quickly flows to the whole body along our capillaries and lymphatic vessels.

At the same time, the toxins contained in hornets are more lethal than those contained in bees.

The toxins contained in wasps can be divided into three categories:

The first is mainly composed of histamine toxins, serotonin, bradykinin, hyaluronidase, etc. This toxin can cause allergies in patients, resulting in rashes, erythema, itching and pain, which may then further develop into symptoms such as chest tightness, nausea and vomiting, dizziness and headache, and a sharp drop in blood pressure. Ultimately, the patient may suffer from anaphylactic shock, develop laryngeal edema and dyspnea, or even suffocate to death.

The second is hemolytic toxins. This toxin causes harm to patients similar to snake venom. It may cause rhabdomyolysis, soy sauce-colored urine, obvious renal failure, and severe liver damage.

The third is neurotoxins, which affect the patient's nerve function and cause the patient to become unconscious.

However, we don't need to be afraid of it. Serious consequences may only occur when we are attacked by a large number of hornets in a short period of time.

But what should we do if we see a hornet's nest near our home or find ourselves being targeted by hornets?

When you find wasps hovering around you, it means you have entered their range. Don't go up to them out of curiosity to find out what's going on, and don't wave your hands to avoid being considered an attack signal by the wasps. Don't panic if a few of them land on you, just shake them off gently.

If you are unfortunate enough to be "misunderstood" by wasps and attacked by them, don't panic. You should lie down immediately, cover your head, neck, and exposed limbs with clothes, and wait for the swarm of wasps to disperse before returning along the way. If you must escape, don't run with the wind, because the swarm of wasps will fly faster with the help of the wind.

Of course, if you want to remove the wasp nest safely, you should let experienced firefighters wear bee-proof suits to remove the wasp nest. Do not do it yourself or watch the firefighters remove the wasp nest to avoid accidental injury.

Finally, if we are stung by a hornet, or find someone else stung by a hornet, we should completely remove the local stinger as soon as possible; rinsing thoroughly with clean water and applying ice can reduce local reactions; the hornet's venom is alkaline, so a weak acidic solution can be used, such as vinegar or 1% acetic acid to scrub the wound locally, and then seek medical attention promptly.

Although everyone has had some experience of being naughty and getting into trouble when they were a child, and this experience makes our lives richer, we still need to pay attention to safety and be careful of "bees" while having fun.
