Correctly understand the "wealth bag"

In daily life, we often see people with a big bag on the back of their neck, commonly known as the "wealth bag". In fact, although it is called the "wealth bag", it does not mean real wealth, it may be fatal!

Correctly understand the so-called "wealth hump" is actually a protruding hard lump at the junction of the neck and chest at the upper back (at the seventh cervical vertebra and the first thoracic vertebra), which is the result of local fat accumulation or soft tissue hypertrophy in the neck.

The formation of hump is closely related to long-term neck strain or excessive bowing of the head, such as long-term desk work, bowing the head to look at the phone, computer, etc. Studies have found that for every 10 degrees of forward tilt of the head, the tension on the back of the neck will increase by 3 times. Therefore, do not bow your head to play with your phone for a long time or put the computer screen too low; choose a pillow of the right height when sleeping; and move your neck more during work and study.

A hump on the back of your neck is not equal to cervical spondylosis, but it usually affects the recovery of cervical spondylosis and causes neck pain. To some extent, a hump on the back of your neck is a warning sign of cervical spondylosis.

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the location of the "wealth bag" behind the neck is exactly the Dazhui point, which is the crossroads of the human body. If there is congestion there, it will cause pain, local stiffness and pain, and in severe cases, tension, pain, and numbness in the shoulders and back. The upward flow of qi and blood to the head and face is blocked, and dizziness, headache, blurred vision, etc. may be seen.

There is no way to judge whether there is a "wealth bag". One is to touch the back of the neck with your fingers when you are relaxed to see if there is an obvious lump.

The second is to stand against a wall, open your feet shoulder-width apart, and lean your back, buttocks, and calves against the wall. If your headrest can lean against the wall, you don’t have a “wealth hump”. If it can’t lean against the wall and there is an obvious bulge at the back of your neck, you have a “wealth hump”. If your head can’t lean against the wall but there is no obvious bulge at the back of your neck, even if you don’t have a “wealth hump”, there may be some problems with the physiological curvature of your spine. If you are not sure, you can consult a professional orthopedic doctor for judgment.

The most important thing to prevent and treat "wealth hump" is to develop healthy living habits. The backpack should not be too heavy, and one-shoulder backpacks should be used less to prevent excessive shoulder weight; the computer screen should not be too low, and the eyes should be kept level as much as possible to avoid hunching over and lowering the head for a long time; choose a pillow of appropriate height when sleeping; pay attention to keeping warm to avoid the neck from getting cold. You can try the following three actions to relieve neck discomfort:

First, correct the forward head tilt and return the head to its original position. Open your legs to shoulder width and stand naturally against the wall. Retract your chin to create a double chin. If you have difficulty, you can use your index finger to help push your chin back and keep your head close to the wall for 5 to 8 minutes.

The second is the Jiaji method. Interlock your fingers and place them on your back, with your elbows spread backwards, and do this for 5 sets, each set for 15 seconds.

The third is neck stretching. Raise your arms up, bend your body to the sides alternately, or open your shoulders and relax them to relax the muscles of your shoulders, neck and back.
