The prevalence of depression in patients with coronary heart disease is 2 to 3 times that of the general population. A study published by Song Xiantao and others from Beijing Anzhen Hospital showed that nearly 20% of patients with coronary heart disease have symptoms of depression.

Recently, Liu Meiyan and others from Beijing Anzhen Hospital found that some commonly used cardiovascular drugs have an impact on the risk of depression.

Their analysis of relevant literature suggests that statins have been proven to have antidepressant effects, mainly by reducing inflammatory factors.

The antidepressant effects of ACEI/ARB and aspirin are controversial. Some studies suggest that ACEI/ARB can exert antidepressant effects by acting on the renin-angiotensin system, while aspirin can inhibit immune responses and may have antidepressant effects, but this needs further confirmation by clinical studies.

Calcium antagonists have been implicated in depression and can modulate neural signaling by regulating calcium channels, but it is unclear whether this effect is beneficial or harmful.

Beta-blockers, diuretics, and nitrates were not associated with depression.

The researchers collected 24 relevant articles from January 1990 to May 2021 from three databases, PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science, and evaluated the effects of seven types of commonly used cardiovascular drugs on the risk of depression.
