What is the reason for frequent milk blockage during lactation?

After many women have been pregnant for ten months and give birth to children, most of them choose to breastfeed without special circumstances. However, in this process, milk blockage is very likely to occur, which often confuses mothers.

Why does milk blockage always occur during the whole process of breastfeeding?

1. Too much milk

During pregnancy, the body secretes a large amount of estrogen, which stimulates the growth of the mammary glands and the secretion of prolactin. The rapid increase of prolactin causes the mammary glands to start secreting milk. The baby sucking the nipple or the breasts emptying can also cause the secretion of prolactin and thus the secretion of milk.

When you feel severe breast pain, you can use ice cubes or other cold compresses to relieve pain and increase local blood circulation. If it is swollen and painful, you can discharge some milk to relieve breast gas pressure.

2. Improper diet

Pregnant women often drink pig's trotter soup, fish head soup, old hen soup, etc., and often drink them for a long time. Doing so for a long time will cause the proportion of saturated fatty acids in breast milk to be too high, increasing the risk of milk blockage.

In this case, you can adjust the dietary structure appropriately, stop taking meat soup, or skim off the vegetable oil in the soup, and drink more vegetable soup or food containing unsaturated fatty acids.

3. Improper use of manual breast pump

An inadequate manual breast pump will usually suck the milk into the nipple where it will accumulate and cannot be discharged, causing milk blockage.

While in the hospital, you should learn to express milk by yourself to reduce the risk of milk blockage.

4. Improper breast care

When lumps appear in the breasts, appropriate medical care methods should be used. Do not apply hot compresses or believe in some folk remedies, otherwise it is likely to cause mastitis and affect the mother's health and breastfeeding.

You can apply appropriate ice compresses, insist on breastfeeding, take appropriate rests, and learn the correct posture to hold the baby, so that the baby's lips face the blocked milk duct area. Don't be too anxious, let the baby suck more, and it will be unblocked after a few times.

5. Fatigue and depression after childbirth

Inactivity during pregnancy, not taking a bath in hot weather, and not overexerting the body during confinement can all cause abnormalities in the body. Moreover, the consciousness of many young mothers today conflicts with the experience of the elderly in the family, causing mothers to be physically and mentally exhausted, irritable, etc.

Before giving birth, you can learn more about parenting knowledge, preferably with your husband and elders, to reduce the conflicts in parenting awareness in the future. During the confinement period, you can also do appropriate exercise and maintain hygiene.

How to solve milk blockage?

Through massage and hot compress, the mammary glands can be unblocked, milk blockage can be resolved or more serious conditions can be avoided. The baby can suck more, the living habits should be healthy, and the mother should have a good attitude and be in a good mood.

To deal with milk blockage, you cannot use some old and unproven methods. If you can't do it yourself, you can go to the hospital and consult a doctor to avoid more serious conditions.
