The meaning of the Jingzhe solar term

The Jingzhe solar term means that the weather starts to warm up and spring thunder begins to sound, awakening hibernating animals in the ground. It also reflects the phenomenon that natural organisms sprout and grow under the influence of rhythmic changes. Jingzhe, also known as "Qi Zhe" in ancient times, is the third solar term in the 24 solar terms of the lunar calendar.

Jingzhe usually falls on March 5 or 6 of the Gregorian calendar every year.

The Jingzhe solar term has a very important significance in farming. Since ancient times, the working people of my country have regarded it as the day when spring ploughing begins.

After the Waking of Insects, the temperature will begin to rise and the rainfall will gradually increase.

What do you need to prepare for the Jingzhe

During the Jingzhe Festival, people need to prepare pears, drum skins, and wormwood. In the northern region, there is a custom of eating pears during the Jingzhe Festival, which means staying away from pests and staying healthy for the whole year. Since the Jingzhe Festival is caused by thunder, people will use this opportunity to cover the drum skins and light the wormwood in their hands to fumigate around the house to drive away snakes, insects, rats, ants, and mold.

In northern China, there is a custom of eating pears during the Waking of Insects, which means staying away from pests and having good health for the whole year. The Waking of Insects is also the time when pests revive. Eating pears means staying away from pests, so that the whole family will not get sick, the farm will not have pests, and the crops will be abundant.

The Waking of Insects is caused by thunder, so people imagined that there was a giant god with a bird's beak in the sky, holding a hammer in one hand and beating a celestial drum with the other, making a rumbling thunderous sound. Therefore, during the day of the Waking of Insects, people also took this opportunity to cover the drum skins.

Jingzhe marks the beginning of February, when snakes, insects, rats and ants begin to wake up. So during the Jingzhe period, people will hold fragrant mugwort and burn it around the house to drive away snakes, insects, rats and ants as well as musty smells with the fragrance. They will also do a thorough cleaning at home to maintain a healthy and clean environment.

Climate characteristics of the Jingzhe solar term

"When spring thunder sounds, everything grows." The Jingzhe season is the best "Jiujiu" sunny day, the temperature rises, the rainfall increases, and the farmers are busy. It can be said that the water of Zuohe River "a thunder wakes up snakes and insects, and a few gusts of rain dye the purple and red. The Jiujiu south wind brings warmth, and the green fields start spring farming." At this time, except for the northeast and northwest regions of my country, which are still covered with silver in winter, the average temperature in most other regions has risen to above 0℃. The average daily temperature in North China is 3-6℃, the south of the Yangtze River is above 8℃, and the southwest and south China are still 10-15℃, which is already a warm spring scene.
