Is urine protein negative or positive? Is it normal? What does a plus sign mean for urine protein?

Urinalysis is one of the routine examination items in our physical examination, mainly to check urine protein. If there is a problem with urine protein, we should consider whether it is a kidney disease and treat it as soon as possible, otherwise it will affect kidney function. So does a negative urine protein test result mean normal or positive? What does a plus sign mean in the test result?

Is urine protein negative or positive normal?

Negative is normal.

Urine protein refers to the presence of trace amounts of protein in normal urine (24-hour urine protein quantitative test is <150mg) during routine urine tests. Ordinary test methods cannot detect the presence of protein in urine, and the test results are generally negative. However, if it exceeds this range, it will be positive, which is called urine protein. If urine protein is positive, a further 24-hour urine protein quantitative test can be performed.

Under normal circumstances, human urine contains almost no protein, and there are generally two types of urine protein. One is physiological, such as excessive consumption of high-protein diets, high-intensity exercise, excessive mental stress, prolonged exposure to cold, etc., which is temporary. The other is pathological, mostly due to kidney lesions or infections, and it is recommended to go to the hospital for corresponding examinations.

What does a plus sign in urine protein mean?

Urine protein (+) indicates that there is a small amount of protein in the urine, which is common in nephritis, especially chronic nephritis, but other secondary nephritis should also be excluded. If the test result is positive, it means it is abnormal.

The number of plus signs indicates the amount of urine protein. (+) to (++) indicate a small amount, while (+++) and above, especially (++++), indicate a large amount.

If there is a plus sign, but there are no underlying diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, and no symptoms such as edema, it may be asymptomatic proteinuria. It is recommended to treat after a detailed examination and to have regular follow-up examinations.

What should I pay attention to when checking for high urine protein?

The first thing to do is to measure blood sugar and blood pressure. If it is caused by blood sugar or blood pressure, then adjusting these two items will naturally improve proteinuria and help control the disease this morning to avoid more serious consequences.

Another point is to pay attention to whether the amount of exercise is too intense. If the exercise is too intense, you should pay attention to adjust the exercise and then see if there is improvement in proteinuria. If there is improvement, don't worry. Finally, check whether you have eaten too much high-protein food recently, and pay attention to adjusting the balanced diet.

If proteinuria occurs, you should pay attention to it. You can eat some yam, coix seed, wax gourd peel, red bean, wolfberry, lotus seeds and other foods. You should also pay attention to a low-salt diet, quit smoking and limit alcohol, and go to bed early and get up early. Keep warm in autumn and winter to avoid affecting the health of the kidneys. Finally, reduce the time of using electronic devices to better protect the kidneys and improve the problem of proteinuria.
