Why does the car make a noise when it is shifting gears? Why does the car make a noise when it is shifting gears?

Engaging gears is also commonly known as shifting gears. Manual gears require the cooperation of the clutch, but automatic gears do not. Sometimes there will be a noise when shifting gears, which is mostly due to operating problems, but it is also possible that it is a clutch failure. How to analyze it specifically?

What is the reason for the car to make a noise when shifting gears?

First, we need to rule out the operating problem. That is, the clutch is not fully depressed. This may be the case if the car has just started, or the person is small and the seat is not adjusted properly.

Secondly, determine whether it is a gearbox failure or a clutch failure. You can first step on the clutch and try each gear while the engine is running. If some gears make noises, it should be a gearbox failure, and there should be a problem with the synchronizer ring, cone plate or cone. The only way is to repair the gearbox. If all gears make noises, then find the clutch failure.

Third, clutch failure should be analyzed as either cable type or hydraulic type.

If it is a cable type, it is estimated that the oil wire is fuzzy and other problems, and the cable should be replaced. If it is a hydraulic type, it is generally caused by oil leakage in the master pump, oil leakage in the slave pump, swelling of the master and slave pump cups, pushing and pulling of the master pump, and excessive free travel of the slave pump.

Fourth, the clutch pressure plate and clutch friction plate are faulty. This is the most common situation.

The main reasons are that the clutch pressure plate spring becomes soft, the spring is broken, the separation lever is uneven, resulting in unclear separation. The friction plate is damaged, the spring is broken and stuck in the middle. High temperature causes the pressure plate and friction plate to anneal, etc.

Why does the car make a noise when it shifts into gear?

There are many clutch failures when the gear is engaged. We can easily judge, for example, the clutch pedal is hard; the clutch pedal is too light; the pedal free travel is greater than 15mm, and the pull wire is obviously fluffy; the hydraulic pipe is leaking oil; the master and slave cylinders are leaking oil: the pedal obviously cannot be stepped on (it should be the pressure plate spring or friction plate that has fallen apart and stuck in the middle, or the master cylinder piston is stuck). These reasons will cause the gear to be engaged. So when we feel the pedal changes during normal operation, it must be a clutch failure.

First, step on the clutch pedal to the bottom and try to shift into reverse gear. There is no synchronizer in reverse gear. If the reverse gear makes a noise, it means that the clutch is not properly separated. Adjust the clutch pedal free travel and try. If it still doesn't work, you need to replace the clutch plate and pressure plate. If there is no noise when shifting into reverse gear, but it occasionally makes a noise when shifting into gear, it may be related to the operation. If it always makes a noise when shifting into a certain gear, there may be a problem with the synchronizer and synchronizer ring of this gear. The gearbox needs to be disassembled for repair. If it is not serious, you can drive it as it is. Cars with synchronizers will make noises when shifting into gear and the gears are not easy to knock.

How to shift gears in a car

There are two types of cars: automatic and manual. Manual cars have digital gear displays, while automatic cars have letters. Manual cars require a clutch to operate the gear, while automatic cars do not require a clutch and do not have a clutch device. Some automatic cars have a parking brake installed at the clutch position.

There are two types of gear shifting operations based on vehicle driving requirements: the first is one-clutch and the second is two-clutch. Two-clutch is used in early vehicles, and the early vehicle gearbox needs to use the engine to shut down the speed between different gears of the transmission gear to facilitate entering the gear because the synchronizer is poor or there is no synchronizer. One-clutch is suitable for most current vehicles, and automatic gear shifting has been cancelled.
